Radiator Q.

I just got done installing a koyo in my sr today, and the mounting brackets for the stock radiator was totally garbage.. And i was wondering if any place made any replacement mounting brackets or can i use oem brackets on my sr radiator.

Another thing... I am currently running the radiator without any brackets at all and hopefully it will hold up to the junkyard :x: But my question is.. how safe is it running it without the top brackets.. and the bottom doesnt have the rubber thingys either...

The radiator doesnt move that much.. it is actually stuck in place very well with the stock smic piping hovering above it.. and hopefully it wont lean back and hit the stock fan.. But your inputs would be nice..

dude put some cushioning on the bottom at least.... you can use the oem brackets... thats why they make radiators specifically for the model car. make sure you don't drive wild.

Having nothing holding it on at the top isnt to terrible for temporaryness;but if you hit a harsh bump with no rubber grommets you could crack it

well i came back from a short trip tonight.. and i was cruising 70 on the freeway so hopefully I didnt crack it.. gotta inspect it tomorrow.. As for the mounthing brackets.. i think Im going to custom fab it at home depo or something..

But I recently remembered that when I installed the radiator today.. i noticed that the charcoal canister had a little hose on it attached at the bottom.. and the hose wasnt connected to anything.. Can that explain rich fumes sometimes coming from the engine bay? I'll get pics on it tomorrow and show you what I'm exactly talking about..

That's the vent, it releases pressure into the frame rail. All canisters do that, early S14s had an extra port that vented into the rail below the driver seat, it's just venting excess pressure from the canister. Unless the filters were clogged it wouldn't vent anything noxious or flammable, so if you're smelling fumes it's more than likely coming from somewhere else. You can bypass the canister temporarily (or remove it completely like everyone else) and see if it changes, but I doubt it will.

so by that little hose on the bottom isnt really a big issue correct? cause technically it is still venting but out a nipple rather than a hose...and as for the rubber mounts on the bottom of the radiator.. it seems they wont fit on my koyo.. Am i putting it on wrong? I am just trying to press them into position but they dont seem to wanna stay.. :rant:

okay.. heres an update.. I got some oem radiator brackets at the junkyard.. and noticed that my original ones were cuts from a previous owner.. :wtf:

Anyway.. my question to those whom are running a koyo radiator on their 240s is do you have any pictures of a radiator so I can see how you installed them?

Cause I noticed that the rods posts ontop of the radiators are much slimmer than the oem radiator bracket holes.. so even if i fasten them down to hold the radtiator uptop.. the mounting brackets are just jiggling around cause the hole is a little too big..

Another question I had was the rubber mounting on the bottom of the radiator doesnt fit cause there isnt enough room to push it up all the way for it to stay.. so therefore I am thinking i would need to life the radiator a little bit.. stick the rubber mounts on the bottom posts.. and lower the radaitor in correct?

Pictures would be nice of the top part of the radiator so I can see how you used the oem radiator brackets.. But I am assuming some people just custom make their brackets out of sheet metal or someshit right?
