Has anyone set up an alternate cooling system for their turbo (i.e. a seperate water reservoir, electric water pump, etc.)? If so how?

There is no need to

Well I am setting up a water intercooler setup. A complete separate cooling circuit. When the times comes, I plan to add the turbo too.
Although is not very common to see waterintercooling in the KA, I calculated that is cheaper and easier to fabricate the piping that the normal air to air setup. The total amount of water will be an aproximata 3 galons, including the reservoir.

maybe you wouldnt want the water cooling the intercooler to also cool the turbo. the turbo would heat 3 galons of water prety quickly. also, you might not want to circulate cold water into a hot ass turbo. (if your ading some way to cool the circulating water in the seperate cooling system.)

air water cooled IC dope.. those are a nifty numbers... mostly drag cars use them.... so can i ask u are u gonna dump ice or dry ice?

water intercoolers aren't practical for a daily driver. the water heats up really quick and then you have an even bigger problem

on the brightside... hot co-co and boiled eggs for everyone! :faint:

It will heat up if you dont have s properly sized radiator for the system.
I am copying the same system that the Syclone/Typhoon guys are using, even the same intercooler.
A good water mixture with a properly sized cooler with a good flow pump will cool the charge no matter what.
Besides, it makes a hell of a sleeper setup!!
When I finish my project will let you know.

I ditched the idea btw.

I'm kinda confused now. Did you mean a different type of intercooler or actually cooling for your turbo? Because I thought you meant the turbo...

The circuit is like this:
Water reservoir~Water pump~intercooler~turbo~water radiator~reservoir
A properly sized radiator, will cool the water, its also important to hace a good airflow. I have mine set behind one of the front sidemarker grill, with the proper ducting and exhaust thru the wheelwell plastic.
I planned to use 2 radiators, one on each side, but was an overkill. How do I determined that, by plumbing the heater hoses and measuring incoming and outgoing temp. Also is not always better to have the water pump at full blast everytime, I am using some restrictor (small hose) on after the pump.
