I am runing a HKS SSQV, and it used to work absolutly amazing, and alot of thanks have changed since then. it seems like it is slow to respond now. under 7 psi I get full compressor surge, and at my normal 10 - 11 psi I get 2 shots of compressor surge before the BoV sound. this bugs the hell out of me! I know I dont even need a bov, but I would like this to work right.
so basicly I am asking how I can improve the response time of this. weather I should change hose size, find a new place to get a vacume signal. or what. I beleave I have it ajusted as loose as I can go without leaking at idle.
the Bov is on my hot pipe.. so there is a little distance to go to the mani. I curently have a small "stock" sized hose conecting to a old vacume fittin on the side of my mani.
do you have an after market intake? because what you're probably hearing isn't compressor surge but a flutter noise associated with aftermarket bov+intakes
3 guys in our team have the same deal and so does my ca. under 7 psi just makes a flutter noise but under higher boost it blows off. The 3 guys have been running their cars that way for 3 years plus on the same turbos so i don't think it's compressor surge. Usually compressor surge is really high pitched and occurs under high boost.
I'm sure tons will disagree with this. But there is a difference.

still stock intake on my KA. and it is definitly compressor surge,.. the vacume line on the BoV has been disconected before ( by acident ) and the sound did no change.

ok well then it's compressor surge :Owned: most people complain about it and that what it is, but in your case something else is going on.
that's wierd that it blows off late. maybe a problem with the bov itself.

or since you said its a ssqv, maybe you should adjust it???
duh
loosten it up a little bit and see if that helps.

Hey whats up with my hks bov. I have to get it over 4.5k in 1st gear to make it sound. Then on every gear until 5 i can go 3.5k and it will be loud.
Btw it use to work right at just about 3.5k-shift-psssshhhh in every gear. Now in 1st its like 4.5k-shift-phss. Im too dumb to figure this out. Im right at 12 psi and for some reason i think i have a boost leak but i aint sure can this be the problem.

K, sorry I didnt read that. When I received my r2d2 it didnt blow off either. I ended up taking it apart and it looked like they used graphite on the piston. It didnt slide easily, so I wiped it off and oiled it. That fixed the problem. Then it blew off very easily so I had to tighten the crap out of it. Im pretty sure that the ssqv has a different design but oiling it would probably help. Good luck man.

took it out, oiled it all.. put it back in, and changed the vacume sorse. its a little better... but it only works right after its be WOT for more then 5 seconds. I am thinking I am not developing enough vacume.. ... it just doesnt seem to go to full vacume very quicly if I am not a WoT for a little while.. I only make about 19hg at 3k in 5th while at full deceleration.. so I am thinking that could be it..

sounds like it may needa rebuild and the piston/spring could be shot
