fuel gauge issues from full to empty immediately!

so i put a full tank of gas in my car a week ago.
no problems until a half tank. i drive my car home from work. turn the car off. when i turned the car off i had just under a half tank.
i turn the car back on 5 minutes later to run to the store.
the gas gauge is below e, and my low fuel light comes on after 5 minutes of driving

anyone else have this happen? what do i check? is there a remedy?

same problem, mine is nearly useless, gauge reads stays at full for like 100 miles, then it drops to half, 50 miles later its on E till i fill it again, gas light came on and my car got like 200 feet before it died, i would imagine it's a faulty sensor in the tank
