For those of you without a press, how did you press your bearings onto your diff?

Im at that stage now and debating whether i should take it to a shop just to be sure that all the measurements are correct...but i guess if i took it to a shop they could press the bearings.....hmmmmm

oh well...tell me how you what you did

Go have it pressed. I rather spend the 20-30bucks(don't know how much it cost), to have a bearing pressed. Than find out I f'd up the bearing install and tear out the diff again.

So I take it you've done it this way? IMO, when it comes to something like that, do it right, or don't do it at all.

hammer causes damage to the part.... press is slowly no damage if any....... do u always solve all ur problems with a hammer?? u know a big as vise would be reasonable not a hammer... really

I've used a hammer. If you use a soft face deadblow it works good. DO NOT USE A METAL HAMMER...unless it's brass. lol I still wouldn't use a brass hammer because they chip.

well....im getting mine pressed(cause its free) from one of the shops close to my house. The problem is i gotta wait till monday to have them pressed and then probably longer cause of that damn hurricane.

Ive already got the ring gear on the new diff and everything all in order....just gotta wait for the bearings.

And whats the deal with it being hard to get the diff out of the pumpkin? After i tapped my output shafts out...I probably could have pulled the diff by hand.......ok..maybe not by hand but still

Well the diff should be tight inside the carrier, because you don't want any slack with your ring gear and pinion gear. If there is too much play, your ring gear and pinion gear is going to start chewing up eachother. If you were able to pull it out with yoru hand, or a minimal amount of force, I suggest you have your diff reshimmed for a tighter tolerance.

The two open diff swaps that I've done. It took about 20-30lbs of force to pop the diff out of the carrier. Installing the shims weren't all that easy either, takes lots of patience. But it still wouldn't go right in, with out the right amount of force. So far, it's been probably 4months, an no problems so far.

Yea....my friend and i had like 3ft. crow bars on either side and just put weight on it....came right out.

I got my bearings pressed today and finished the job. when I tapped the last shim in it was pretty tight. I put some white grease on the ring gear to check the pattern and it was a little towards the toe on the drive side........absolutely perfectly perfect for used gears.

Ive driven about 15 miles so far....only about 165 to go....damn nismo.
Just kiddin...i lightly got it sideways a few times in the parking lot earlier...its so smooth and sssssuuuupppperrrrrrrrr quiet. it sounds like this.............................................. .ch...................................

wow, i never had that much trouble swapping differentials.
unbolt, pry out, swap, drop in, bang shims in slowly, insert output shafts, enjoy.
