If you had it done at a shop, how much did parts/labor end up costing? I'm just curious, I was looking around car-parts.com and KA's are around $500-1000 or so, but I have no idea what a shop would charge for labor. Anyway, just wondering, Thanks

if you got a garage just do it your self because most shops will charge a 1000, a 240 specialty shop will charge alot less though.

I know it's a lot less to do it yourself, if I personally have to ever replace the engine (I better not anytime soon, it only has 101k) then I would probably have a mechanic do it on the side. Anyway, I'm just asking those who have had it done at a shop the total cost.

I scored a left over KA+Tranny once for $300 from some dude that swapped in an SR. The shop charged $600 labor. Had like 90k miles on it or someshit.

$600 for labor is pretty reasonable, not bad.

I paid 300 for a KA motor and installation at a local shop, runs awesome minus bad headgasket leaking coolant somewhere, and a slow motor.

If you cant install it your self, and need to have a shop install the same damn engine that you have, I recomend seeking the advice on NICO. Their members could help you out more.

Its clusterd with newbies asking bizarre questions, yet people still answer them kindly. Such recent topics as "Should I go with a SR20det or RB26dett?"

Guys, I'm not doing an engine swap, my engine has 100k on it. I was just curious to see how much it would cost for the hell of it. If it came down to it, I would have a mechanic from work do it on the side.

arm and a leg. About 600-700 sounds just right.
I charged people 150 for removal, and 150 for installation, but they found THAT outrageous.
I laughed, and shoo'ed them home.

i had to replace my single cam about a year back. It cost me about 350 for a 97-98 s14 ka, harness, and ecu. I did most of the hard swap myself and had a shop do the wiring and power steering for about 300.

He charges that much because he calls me over and i do most of the work and he pays me with a hamburger and a thank you. Then he grabs my ass and sends me home. Plus were surrounded by a bunch of cheep ass people that dont want to pay 50 bucks to swap springs and want to get hooked up left and right.

Isn't there something to be said for not going into auto-flame mode everytime somebody doesn't know as much as they do?

i just did it over the weekend with some friends
its not PURELY plug and play
it depends on what year engine is going into what car.
but it is pretty simple. get some friends together and make it a fun day or two.

Or get all pissy and bitchy at each other cuz ___ dropped it in too fast, and ___ crushed a few lines. You should tape it, correctly done, or failed. Always fun to see friends yelling at each other, and spraying someone in the face with brakeclean. :whip:

^ yea...... well thats great. dont crush your powersteering lines or u will bitch about it here if ur still gonna do it yourself. and use throttle body cleaner to spray someone, double it up with a torch

that's pretty accurate
aznpoopys engine swap:
-sprayed myself in the face with throttle body cleaner
-bent powersteering lines because we didnt get to actually dropping in the engine until 9pm when it was dark
-everyone was yelling at everyone else around the 8 hour mark

I usually do shit myself. In my driveway.Where everybody can see.NAKED.
I pulled out my KA24E and everything associated with it,installed and wired KA24DE harness dropped in in new DOHC motor with a broken motor mount which turned out to be a oil burning POS anyways.month later I pulled POS motor, pulled another KA24DE out of parts car, swapped intaked manifolds then dropped it in with a fresh set of URAS motor mounts. While all this was happening I was piecing my own turbo kit...fast forward to to last month I'm laying down 14's all night at the drag strip...Total-about 3k thats including the cost of the damn car itself. With 2 extra KA24DEs and ashitload of parts that I dont even know what to do with.Thats what most pay for just an SR swap alone...
I woulda had to pay out the butt in labor...
if anybody cares :eek3d:
