i got a sr20 redtop in a 95 s14, i recently replaced anotehr harness and it had a short, blew out the EGI fuse, the car would crank but would not catch. the ecu isnt giving any power to the fuel pump or stuff in th engine bay. I know its not the ecu because i tested it on my freidns car and it started up fine. i checked all the fuses in the car too and its all fine. any suggestions to what the problem might be?

Are you saying the starter is spinning freely?

naw, the car cranks, but it wont actaully start because the fuel pump isnt on.

Check the fuel pump fuse, and harness connection/tangs.

Make sure your grounds are clean, and double/triple check the fuses.

**Old ass bump...on purpose, in order to keep the forum clean.**

EGI Fuse Keeps Popping. No Fuel Action. Car Cranks.

I did some searches, and there were no definite answers besides:

Fuel pump fuse

EGI relay

Chassis grounds

Short circuit

ETC.

Here is what happened.

I connect the battery to start the car.

On...ACC...fuel pump primes...car cranks...there is a ticking sound somewhere...engine does not turn over...off.

Repeat...same scenario...off.

On...ACC...fuel pump does not prime...car cranks...engine does not turn over...

On...ACC..fuel pump does not prime.

Fuses checked and replaced...undefined ones due to lack of fuse panel cover.

On...ACC...fuel pump does not prime.

Fuel pump checks via FSM...continuity where necessary.

On..ACC...fuel pump does not prime.

Relays swapped.

On..ACC...fuel pumpdoes not prime.

Fuse check via engine bay...EGI fuse blown...replaced...ON...EGI fuse pops...off.

EGI fuse barely makes contact...pops.

Something happened and wow...it is difficult to narrow down.

Check done: disconnected the ECU...EGI fuse inserted...does not pop...the problem is in the engine harness; bad egi relay or a problem in the injector harness.

Checks for tomorrow:

Direct voltage to the fuel pump to check if its working.

and....................................

please give me some advice on what else I could do.

Also, is the EGI relay the fuel pump relay, if not where is the EGI relay?

95 240sx.

Thanks,

Carlos

so the fuel pump primes but doesn't run when the engine's cranking over.....

did you wire in the dash plug correctly, ie your orange "start signal" wire behind the glovebox.

Voya call me assface.

The fuel pump is not priming.

The car started fine until today.

The last time it started successfuly was about a month ago. I have not attempted to start the car since, because I was doing a bunch of work to the car.

I don't know where this orange start signal wire is, mostly because I don't have a glove box.

Does it have another color on the wire or is it just orange?

Is it at the F4 plug?

well hold up. is the car in an s13 or s14. if s14, yes it'd be the f4 plug but it'd be grey/red stripe if memory serves. if it's an s13 car it'd be the orange wire that's on the brown or white dash plug just a tad above the blower motor on the passenger side.

but anyways while you're looking at your dash plug

your fuel pump signal wire on both s13 and s14 is black with a pink stripe. the ecu gives that a 5 second ground when you initially turn your key to the on position aka primes fuel to your fuel rail. then once it gets the signal from the cam angle sensor that your motor is spinning it sends it a continuous ground to run your fuel pump.

the ground signal from the ecu goes to your fuel pump relay, denoted as "egi pump" on s13. that ground completes the circuit to your fuel pump relay. the relay clicks over and then sends power to your fuel pump. on an s14 that power wire is black with a yellow stripe and may be the same if it's an s13, i forget.
