View Full Version : Black-out koukie headlights...

I am doing the whole black theme on my car and I am nearly finished. I was wondering what black housing on the headlights would look like...they are projectors so it wouldn't effect beam patterns, which would be dumb. I want to run dark amber corners in conjuction with the black housing headlights - so sick of chrome. How feasible would it be to do this and make it look professional? Also, any example pics would be helpful.
Thanks in Advance,
Ryan

Black doesn't look very good with kouki glass headlights because at certain angles (since it's glass), the flat black color looks very faded, old, etc. I have it on myself and I'm always back and forth with what I like, but I can't do anything about it anymore.
so basically, only under certain lighting conditions (low light) will the black look good. It's not possible to obtain the black housing look like on STi's, Hondas, or BMW's.
black housing kouki headlights are terrible! leave it chrome
or how aobut tinting the lens to give it a different appearence?

the reason why you cant get the black housing like how the STI honda etc etc is becuz of the lense. it is not clear but has lines across it.
s15s have black housing and look like the rest is becuz its clear
just leave it chrome

A member from another forum has smoked the back of his headlight houseing, not the lenses.
is this what you were looking for? I like the way it looks, minus the dents and duct tape

You're not supposed to spray anything on the lense, the only way to do it is the housing.

I like the smoked housing - how easy are they to take apart and do this project? What sheen of spray should be used?
I don't like the "widow-maker" headlight covers on the target cars... they are so camaro.

where do you get the fk covers anyway? id like to get some, but arent they like 300 bucks?

it's proprietary secret, but send your headlights at $100 bucks to TurdZ and we'll do it for you =P hahahah
doesn't matter what kinda paint, really, but to be safe just go high-temp stuff
and Raine's zenki is the hottest zenki front i've ever seen
Sadly,...they are still reflectors. If I had zenki i'd have to black housing AND retrofit HID projectors in their first thing ...sorry, but stock zenki is just ugly and poor lighting

for those who didn't know.

JDM Kouki headlights look much better with the black housing. They have a bigger center black "gap" and a larger projector so you get a nicer effect in general.

agreed, plus they don't have the fluted design infront of the lense...good for HID retrofit. I have black housing on my car right now, and been thinking of going back to chrome or get JDM/Euro headlights.
Pudula - Just keep it chrome.
edit: I do like what Jay did to his car.... http://driftunit.com/photos/photoshoot/jay/index.html

I blacked mine out over 2 yrs ago and i cant say that i got any complains bout it. I hated the chrome trim inside the housing. I did both the headlight and corner lights.
Not the best pix, but its the only one i found with a quickness...

since its the light is thrown w/ a projector the housing shouldn't make a difference right? chrome or black it shouldn't effect the lighting and as far as the looks its up2 preference. I like it but, if not done right it can look really crappy. I have a friend who used black stickers to tape the inside as a temp fix.. didn't look clean, but then he fixed it afterwards
chmercer
07-07-2005, 01:15 AM
91crx - right, as long as you paint the correct part of the housing black, it will not affect the lighting.
zenkidori - thoes are fk covers, not german headlights. german headlights suck haha
luisgonz - hood on the driftworks car is a masa hood
optionzero - please pm about the 100$ thing? what do you do, sand the lines out the lens or somthing?
91CRXsiR
07-07-2005, 03:04 AM
if you sand down the flutes of the lense it will effect the lighting .. unless u are going projectors then it doesnt matter.. unless the projector was meant to work w/ flutes and its a bitch to do by hand my friends camry headlights too him all day and he couldn't wackoff for 2 weeks after that hahah j/k

hood on the driftworks vinyled car is masa.
hood in the pic of the all black kouki is obviously not the same if you look at the pics, that's the custom hood.
he said put on the masa hood for gt battle, but also still has the custom one.
Jesus, the driftworks car and the all black kouki are the same fucking car. The hood is custom. Talk about off topic...
sultan
07-07-2005, 02:40 PM
it doesn't matter if the car is the same, the hood is NOT the same.
SilviaDriver
07-07-2005, 02:45 PM
yes the all black kouki and drift works car IS THE SAME CAR
BUT. in the picture when it was ALL BLACK, that is a CUSTOM hood.
and for the picture of black kouki with driftworks decals it is a MASA
same car, different stages of the car, different hoods.
