I'm nearing the beginning of the ka24e->ka24et project amazingly enough. As I'm going through all the details and planning I've run into a few questions.

:::what I (think) I'd like to do:::
I have a complete replacement exhaust ready to bolt in, whose downpipe was flanged to mount to a bottom mount turbo (sr20det blacktop). I'm mounting a cast top-mount manifold, similar to a revhard on the ka24e. I'd like to not hack or reflange the downpipe flange, originally intended for the SR bottom mount, and just add a test pipe to bolt up to the downpipe and turbo.

:::questions:::
Is it commonplace when doing a turbo install onto a NA engine in a situation where exhaust fabrication is needed to install the testpipe and drive it over to the muffler/exhaust shop and have them finish? Or do you get the fabrication work done ahead of time or somewhere in between? Anyone made temporary test pipes when not doing their own exhaust work?

thanks for the advice!

Yep, quite common to get it all together, then have it towed (gotta love AAA) to an exhaust shop for the final piece.

Buy mandrel bends from Jegs.com, rent a small MIG welder (Lincoln 100, cost maybe $25/day), make it yourself, in your garage/driveway.

That's what I did...cheap and easier.

you want to fab up so the downpipe reaches the turbo? cut the flange off and put a new one on after adding to the downpipe...a test pipe is where your cat was at...

Maybe I'm confused then...

The exhaust I have ready to bolt up when I finish installing the turbo is welded like this::
downpipe -> cat -> pipe -> resonator -> pipe -> muffler
I was thinking a test pipe was this:
turbine flange -> testpipe -> downpipe -> rest of exhaust

but actually the test pipe is this??
turbine flange -> downpipe -> testpipe -> rest of exhaust

If so any real reason why I couldnt put a short pipe flanged correctly to connect the turbine flange to my sr20 downpipe? The main reason being I'd rather not hack apart the greddy downpipe as well as have a ready exhaust if a red/blacktop ever finds its way into my 240.

thanks...

I'll look into it -- thanks

it should go like this o2 housing-down pipe-cat-rest of exhaust... So if you would like to keep your down pipe in one piece just have a pipe fab'd up from the turbo to downpipe. I don't know that i would trust anyone making this section with out seeing the car. So you are going to need to get your car down to the exhaust shop. Don't just run open turbo, you will need some sort of piping comming from the turbo.
