My neighbor got bit by one on his leg. They gave him something through an IV and he had like a mini-IV taped to him for about a week or 2. It never got as bad as those pictures.

WTF? The bite is that deadly? That's freakin insane. My paranoia of spiders since the movie Arachnophobia a few weeks ago has incrased rapidly. Just a few days ago, I found at least 7 black widows in my garage with those web sacks and everything. I think I even saw some of the babies :(
I tried to clean out the webs and everything, and now leave the garage a bit open to get some light in there.

That's correct, killing crickets in the house is bad luck. Killing spiders in the house is LAW!

most spiders are beneficial in the home
they eat other bugs that would otherwise be more rampant

this is something off that site, a story written in by some guy:
I spent 11 months in Iraq with my fiancé (now wife) and we brought home a camel spider that we kept as a pet. It was so cute and is actually potty trained. It grew from just a few inches to about a foot long (I saved all of it’s skins). We let it sleep with us in our bed—just like a puppy. Recently, my wife developed a lump on the left side of her abdomen. The doctors agreed that it was benign (basic cyst). A dermatologist at the Mayo clinic lanced it and found several marble-sized eggs and a live, baby spider.
Now, we have a beautiful daughter (spider) named Shadow. My wife feels blessed to have been the surrogate mother and the two of them (Hungry and Shadow) are part of our family. Today I found a lump on the inside of my mouth—what a joy!!
wow thats just fucking gross and nast and ...Creepy...yuck

Right now, I don't care about Spiders, I let them live and don't get freaked out by them anymore (I let them crawl on a piece of paper and let them outside).
NOW CENTIPEDES on the other hand still freak me out. They are so fast and ugly. They really freak you out when you are watching a movie with no lights on, and then out the corner of your eye, you see this fast little blob run by. I jump like a little girl. The ugliest one i saw was a black and yellow one (shivers).
Oh yea, and centipedes eat spiders.... :sadwavey:

The camel spider thing is completely exxagerrated, the run about 10mph, not 25, are not venomous, and rarely attack people, but they are pretty damn big and have fatty jaws, but aren't desert killers. The pic is an illusion here is the same picture from a different perspective, so the spiders don't look as big as a human leg.

Trust me dood, those fookers are big enough. I had my own encounter with those fookers in Kuwait when i got deployed. We were moving sandbags when one of the guys I was with, picked up a bag and just saw the front legs raise up. He dropped the bag and started running and the thing just chased him for a good 50 feet till it decides to go hide under a truck. A cop rolled tru, decides to catch it with a metal bucket. Thing actually crawled into it, then the cop decides to pull 6 rounds into the bucket. It was a purdy sight.
Anyways, in one of our in-briefings into the base, they showed a guy who was missing a whole ear after it was eaten over night by one of those things. Lets just say i never left my boots laying around without me stuffing the shiet out of it b4 i go to bed.

The wound itself appears to be real, at least, and, while more extreme than most, does resemble necrotic ulcers known to be symptomatic of brown recluse spider bites. They are also symptomatic of gangrene and necrotizing fasciitis, however, both of which can result from a brown recluse bite but both of which have other causes as well and might be mistaken for such a bite. Experts say misdiagnoses very common. The majority of brown recluse bites are "uneventful," in fact, and never progress to such a serious stage.

mother nature has created some incredible types of venoms, the brown recluse is crazy, some snakes are also intense, like the "fer de lance" which i believe is from south and central america. i saw a discovery channel show on one of those and the bite was devestating, they kill alot of people.
"For example, the fer-de-lance, a pit viper from Central and South America, has in its venom several highly effective cytotoxins - chemicals that target living cells. Some affect cell walls, causing them to rupture; others go for blood cells and vessels, causing massive internal bleeding."

Recluse spiders are nasty. I saw one on a door downstairs 2 years ago, never sawe one in my house again. Causes gangreen. The worst spider out there makes me stay away from the bananas at the supermarket. Imported bananas. Banana spiders take more human lives per year then all spiders combined. And to add. A very quick (30min) and painful death. If you get bitten, you might as well take your own life rather then go into spasms.

you know ive worked in produce for over 2years and havent found anything interesting besides a few gigantic moths...a few cocoons and a few smaller spiders from california...prolly somethin dangerous but they are pretty slow after being a cooler for a week...i thought banana spiders were way bigger than that i guess but shit im gonna pay more attention now...
edit: i guess there is more than one kind of banana spider

There are different spider's called banana spiders. It seems that many people refer to their spiders as banana spiders because they hide in bananas, but the real nasty "banana" spider is that Wandering spider. The original Banana spider.

Seems like the last 2 years of my life have been surrounded with crazy spiders...
I spent 6 months in Ft. Jackson SC dealin with the Brown Recluse threat (lets say I always brough trashbags to wrap my shit up in when we went to the field in SC...all those pine needles made EXCELLENT hiding spots for those spiders...granted the Wolf Spider was about 10x more common, that too has a bad bite suposedly!!
Now i'm here in Kirkuk, Iraq and we've got these damn camel spiders...granted we've not seen any bigger than typical computer mouse/playing card, they are pretty freakin fast and agressive...I remember finding my first Camel spider when moving some steel around our area's perimeter....I hoped out of the Bobcat to adjust the forks on it, and there this little fucker was running towards me...I think I stomped and missed the lil guy like 3 times before I got him. We now have one that lives under a conex in our yard...we watch him run out from underneath it when you walk inside it...they seem to run on their back 6 legs and left their front 2 in the air (I guess to look more aggressive)...
We also see them all the time when convoying and driving around...they run out on the road much like squirrels back home!!!
And whoever said their bite isn't bad must not have dealt with them...we've had 2 serious incidents on post since I've been here (Late Feb)...
Sall good though...i'm more worried of the snakes here...every last one of those mofuggas is toxic...unfortunatly here most are Viper type and are all agressive!
That recluse leg pic is freakin nasty...but a reminder to watchout for those scarey guys!!!
