View Full Version : Retarded ricey tow hooks on daily driven cars

So I'm browsing through Honda-tech.com looking at some pictures in the General Appearances sub-forum. I click on a few links and I noticed how many CivicIntegras had those retarded ricey tow hooks installed. I think these CivicIntegra owners installed 'em so they can look like race cars. But I think they look really stupid.
Fisrt thing, I wouldn't trust those aluminum hooks. Sedond, they block the factory tow hook location.

they are prepared to have thier NA engine blocks die when they run 87 octane...
the toe hook thing is a part of the "US JDM" craze... :bowrofl:

Naw, they are ready to get their cars towed away, cuz they break the max db limit with their bee-hive of a n exhaust.
Someone should be rice and install one of those towhooks on the passenger side of the car.

Lol. I've thought about welding a hook on the front of my car. Comes in handy when you put your car in a ditch. though those cars look too nice to be put in a ditch, lol. Now, those ones on the back of that cars are stupid, they are coverind up a tow hook with a tow hook. but a front one could come in handy, like i said. :2f2f:

okay, whats the difference between that and having:
-2 grand in rims that you had to wait 3 months to get
-10 inches of rim when you have 8 inches of tire(after stretching)
-rims that stick out an inch from the fender
-a motor with a glass valvetrain that you imported because "it isn't a truck motor"
-any lnumber of other "dorifto" bullcrap artifacts plastered on your car for the sheer purpose of announcing to the world "i can sling the back half of my car into a concrete barrier and not care cause that's how the japanese do it".
its just as stupid as all of your retarded little fascinations that don't matter. just because its on a honda doesn't really make it any less ricey than all of you kids' antics.
hmmm, I want one, just so I don't destroy my frp front bumper if my car ever needs to be towed. But they do look pretty ugly on those hondas, if only because they stick out so far. Just wait until one of those cars hit roadkill and impale them on the tow hook. :p

I have no opinion on the tow hooks...
but those are four NICE honda products in those pictures. Hate all you want, those are very clean cars.

i don't see installing aftermarket tow hooks as rice so long as the car is actually used on a track where an off track venture could require a nice beefy tow hook that's easily accessible.......now, i wouldn't install aluminum tow hooks necessarily but hey......that's on them
Maeda

Werd.
I'll do it.
It makes life a LOT easier then pulling the bumper off in a ditch before you get towed.

that first integra posted is very sexy. Love the gab(?) wheels.
as for the tow hooks... no worse than the things 240 owners do to their cars, really.

I agree, that integra is sexy. I think those wheels are rotas.
Anyways, as others said, we do shit to our cars that other people laugh at. My co-worker was giving me shit when i put my z32 brakes on. Saying WTF are you doin? Your car isnt any faster, so why do you need to stop faster??
Makes sense to me. Quit hating.

I don't understand why they don't get one like the S2000. It's functional. When you need it, you take it out of the trunk and screw it in the hole in the front bumper. If they "need" one great; just why is it permantly mounted. Hell I would be afraid I would trip over the damn thing.
R33GTS-T
07-05-2005, 02:48 PM
lol....i imagine you would probably walk into it after first putting it on.........i'm considering throwing a tow hook on the front and rear of my 33.........still haven't decided yet though

i would imagine you know this from personal experience??? the only reason i was thinking of not using aluminum was b/c i figure it would just flex and bend under the stresses of the tow truck trying to pull it :shrugs:
Chernobyl
07-05-2005, 03:04 PM
I know this from being a mechanical engineering graduate. There's enough cross-secional area there that it'll hold just fine. It's definitely not pure aluminum anyway, but an alloy.

they are mainly used at the track for an assist vehicle. the aluminum ones work fine, and you can even mount one on your roof if you like. stop bashing them cuz your car probable sucks compared to the ones you posted.
ignorance.
Phlip
07-05-2005, 05:46 PM
I don't see these as a wholly "horrible" or "rice" idea, just that I would not personally do it on my own car. I saw mention of removeable ones somewhere in this thread as I skimmed trying to avoid ignorantly blind hatred and agreed with that as an even better idea.
... I still won't do it, but hey, I paid for my car, not you guys...
OMGWTFBBQ
07-05-2005, 08:35 PM
seriously, it's their car leave them alone. Having come from Honda-Tech a while ago I know for a fact that a few of those cars do see track time and Tow-Hook is a functional thing. If your gonna call them stupid, you could call anyone who gets a body kit or anything appearance related dumb for getting it.
SilviaDriver
07-05-2005, 08:56 PM
why not buy the tow hook mod it to where u need it to fit then take it off and leave it in your car. when you need the hook take it out put it where u modded it ot fit and take ur shit out of the ditch. when done remove and throw back in trunk.
my stock tow hooks are fine iwht me. plus i cant see spending approx 100 for something like that, when it can be had for a lot cheaper. it probably cost those guys 20 bucks to amke.

A buddy of mine put a snowman head x-mas tree ornament thingy on my TA's towhook one night at a party.
I also had the bracelet on the shiftboot before I knew what drifting was. A girl left hair-tie made of cats eye beads there one night, and it stayed in my car till I sold it.

The stock tow hooks are not very good if the car is up to the axles in dirt. This happens frequently. I'm going to start bringing a shovel out to the track.
I wish every car had those higher tow hooks, or a cage (ultimate "tow hook"

Johny5
07-07-2005, 05:15 PM
well yeah, you have to remove the bumpers front or rear during tow. but still the higher tow hook can put your car at lesser of an angle, which might in turn save your exhaust etc. sometimes cars get knee deep in shit and the hooks are buried (oem ones) then what? uh-oh someone call "ricey honda tow hook" man cus he's about to save your ass.

Wait. Since when is it ricey to have a fire extinguisher? Anyone been in a car fire? It sucks.
Fire extinguishers are definatly not rice, and a very very good thing to have on any car. Placing them on the A piller is retarded tho and I have always considered that rice as well as getting the apc chrome ones. They can be just as easily acessed behind the front seats mounted to the cage or to the floor, just somewhere fairly close to the drivers seat. Even in a full bucket its just as fast to pop the harness, twist and reach into the back seat as it is to reach across to the passenger A piller.

It's supposed to be "securely fastened" in reach of the driver without unbuckling the harness. I'm not sure where you would mount it on your back seat though. Roll bar's make great location's for mounting extinguishers for most folks. There's nothing ricey about safety, but there are ricey safety devices like the $50 apc chrome extinguisher. My friend has one in his car he bought a few hours after he had just put out an engine fire in his car and had used up his last one. I bust his balls about it, but it was all they had in stock and I don't blame him for buying it.
S14DriftR
07-10-2005, 01:59 PM
Not on the seat itself, most people I know that have cars equiped with extingushers no longer have back seats. My arms are long enough to reach the center of the floor where the seat used to be, with the harness unclipped. I personally would rather unclip than have it up front but thats all personal preference, the events I drive in dont have rules regarding the use or placement that i have to comply with.

I'm glad to see the response this has gotten. I have a Honda as my daily driver, and it irks me when people automatically assume that because that it's a Honda, it's rice. I don't see how he could say "look at this rice" and then post a pic of a Type R.
One of my old cars was lowered and had a body kit on it, and when I had to get it towed once, I really wish I would've had one of those hooks on it.

Fire extinguishers is not ricey when you are running after market fuel pumps, FPRs, injectors, have relocated batteries, turbo manifolds that heat up to 1300 F etc etc..ricey is some guys on zylvia putting 18 by 10 wheels on their cars and body kist and their car is running a KA24DE with 140 HP at the wheels with an intake an axleback..there are a lot of guys on here that pose like it is out of control

everyone has their own definition of what they think rice is..thats called opinion...this thread was about tow hooks being ricey...well my argument with that was they are required at drift events so how can they be ricey..thne someone said fire extinguishers were ricey, I said they were not and explained why you should have one, then I gave my idea of what rice was..and youjumped on me saying i was talking shit about people...I wasnt...why didnt you jump on the guy saying fire extinguishers were rice and name cars with fire extinguishers..i am entitled to my opinion, this is a public forum..some guys like big wings, I think they are ricey..one of my best frinds over with an S13 with 400 Hp has one and I tell him everyday it is ricey..I say shit like "hey man the airport is that way" or, you can't taxi around my neighborhood..its all opinons..its all good
