What are the specs on your gauges? boost/oil/water/a:f etc.
What do you like/dislike about them?
Size?
Where are they mounted?
Pics?

Trying to get an idea of what I'd want to be looking at when I get my KA-T up and spooling.

Thanks guys.

As of now all I have is an old school blitz boost gauge. Reads to 1.5 bar, no complaints at all about it. Mounted on top of my steering column. I have digital cluster so it sits in the middle of the tach when I am in a driving position.

all sorts of gauges. ones like speed and rpm are right in front of me (how convenient!). And ones like injector pulsewidth, duty cycle, air fuel ratio, spark advance, acceleration enrichment etc are on my laptop in my passenger seat. haha sorry I just had to...

currently, defi link boost 60mm, on dash in holder above vents. control unit in pocket under radio.

but i'm selling that link for bf, and then saving for bf water temp, oil pressure.

Defi link 52mm water temp, Defi BF 60mm boost gauge. I personally love them cuz of the features it offers. It can record up to 3 mins, warning chime, peak and warning levels, brightness controls, sleek style (especially the BF series one :D ) 1 thing i dont like about them is the price. hella bank but i like them. O yea they are mechanical types not the ones where u tap it off from the ecu or i think thats how other ones are done.

pic isnt that great but i have the boost mounted on the side of the curve where the gauge cluster is and where my center vents are.. well i took those out and got a gauge pod holder for 52mm and place the water temp there.

Anyways i have a omori boost guage, yeah im not turbo yet but i have it. Has warning and peak hold. I got a single pillar pod i got from work, an autometer. Doesnt look bad.

i dun think with 194 bulb, because i also change some blue 194 bulbs to the gauge, but the needle also will become blue color

why not? the price difference isn't that great, and i'd like to be able to adjust brightness at night.

yay!

i did use 194 wedge bulbs and i took apart the gauge cluster. i had to take the needles of and put a led under the gauge faces next to the needle shaft. I broke my extra clusters from doing this but i like it. taking the needles off were fawking hard.

i run autometer gauges, they work fine...but i have one problem. sometimes my water temp gauge will just NOT work at all...them magically jump up to temperature...its kinda weird. anybody else ever have a problem like this?

Nope. Didn't buy autometer.

=p

Get autometer's full sweep gauges it'll be a little bit more responsive and accurate then off/on/maybe.
Or Defi, or Greddy.

sorry, i completely forgot to mention any details on the gauges at all. my engine temp gauge is a z-series, mechanical full sweep gauge. I've checked the sensor and its fine so i dunno why it will randomly stop working. btw, here is a pic of what the gauge looks like...full sweep as you can see

other than that i would LOVE to get full defi gauges...but i got other things to spend my money on

Oil Pressure/Water temp: VDO gauges
Likes: OEM companies uses VDO and it's a simple quality design.
Dislikes: Mechanical and sender is built-in, so you have to run the line.
Size: 2 5/8ths or 67mm
Location: Passenger side airbag
Pics: None of in car yet, but this model

EGT: St. May
Likes: Electrical and easy to hook up. JDM tight. No one else got St.May.
Dislikes: None really.
Size: 60mm
Location: Passenger side airbag

Oh good you bought the better autometers.
If you can't swing defi's price i recommend greddy heavily.

Just as accurate with less of the cool bling features... especially the 52s.

I run autometers... I didn't realize my other parts on the car would end up being so nice, so I didn't think I could care to go big on the gauges - I wish I had at this point. Besides, I have them in the upper din slot, so 2 1/16 in. gauges were the only option. They work, so I don't mind. I run boost (no idea why, the profec B spec II sits right above it and reads boost), egt, oil pressure, and soon to be installed is water temp in the pillar.

I run Autometer (Phantom) as well. They serve their purpose. Water Temp and Oil pressure are only ones installed (pod on A-pillar). Rest are sitting in the house. Boost will be on A-pillar. Oil Temp, EGT, and A/F guages will probably be in center vent pod (if I can find/make one).

greddy 60mm all around. on dash is oil pressure/water temp black 60 electrics. on steering column corners is boost/egt silver 60mm warning. safc correction reading? false safc knock reading?

-Defi link in the dash. Oil pres, oil temp, EGT.
-Yashio Factory water temp unit (digital readout) in cluster covering stock lame ass water temp guage.
-Old Skool HKS 48mm silver face boost guage on steering column (right in front of you but small, doesn't block anything).

o just as a reminder when u get ur gauges. If youre goin to get defi, the defi link ones can be in US units or International units. The BF series are in International units. Its not that big of an issue but if u dont want to think in international units then BF will get on ur nerves. Whenever i look at my boost gauge, i have to think how many PSI it is by calculating and gets annoying sometimes but the gauge still looks good!

DoriftoSlut
07-06-2005, 07:16 PM
Yeah... no biggie though. I got all mine in metric units. Because the rest of the world uses that. And its not too hard... 1 bar = 14.7 psi.

cheez80
07-06-2005, 07:49 PM
oh, another warning: the us unit version looks different from the jdm ones. make sure you know which ones you're getting!
