View Full Version : 300zx Brake MC reservoir?

I've been sourcing all the parts needed to upgrade my 240sx brakes...(still need to locate rear ebrake assembly/cables, and still debating on brake pads, and even if I should use 296x30 or 280x30 rotors in the front since I have the R33 front calipers and was told they work on both without a drastic difference)
crap..sorry...but back to my question:
I purchased a Fenco Reman. 300zx brake master cylinder (17/16") from Autozone (part # m52560 if you guys are interested...51.99 + 50 core charge). However, stupid me didn't think if it came with the reservoir (and of course it didn't wen it came :duh: ). I checked autozone's online website..didn't have it...my friend picked up these parts for me so I didn't have a chance to ask them so ill probably be calling them up 2morow...in the mean time...i was wondering if anyone had an extra reservoir ( :eek3d: ) or knew how to remedy this problem (currently have the 15/16" brake MC...if the reservoir on this fits on the 17/16" then this topic is dead... but i'm not quite sure..anyone know?)
Thanks for putting up with my stupidness!

Use the S13 reservoir.
And to add to that, do not under any circumstances use excessive force to put on or remove said reservoir. Doing so will alter the state of the seal around the MC. So long as you're not a complete idiot you shall be fine.
Screwdriver is all you need with some elbow gresse and comon sense to follow.
Im sure this will follow, if the fitting is missing (middle flare fitting in the MC) use the search button at FA, or ziptied.

Thanks for the info R240NA,
Stock13: are you saying to be careful when taking the reservoir off the MC? I'm not quire sure what you mean. The MC is probably going to be be exchanged to get back my core :) Also the middle flare is missing from the 17/16" MC, but I don't quite understand what you mean by using the search button at FA/ziptied
I know i'd probably have to get one from the S13 MC by cutting it up but is that the only way to get the flare fitting?
Thanks
Chris

Dumbed downMORON version: "Be cool when takin' off the resevoir (CAN) off the s13 MC, cuz it f00k things up y0, like da seal and den i oono it will be fux0red" (note the lack of gram. and pun.)
Do a seach on either Freshalloy, Ziptied, or Zilvia to find a method to alleviate the missing flare fitting problem. Clear yet? Or shall I just go down to glendale and set your car a blaze?

I actually already knew the information you gave...so i'm sorry i had to make you be a dick about since i was a little unsure of what you said...all i wanted was some clarification but i guess an insult always comes with one of those on these forums?
But thanks for the clarification (and attempt to make me look like an idiot?)

I looked at an S13 reservoir (online). However the plug for the reservoir sensor isn't the same type as the one on my S14 (15/16") The connection on the S13 reservoir has 2 larger prongs than the one currently in my car. (Picture is attached) It's just two connections tho...anyone know if a splice + connect would work? I've also noticed that most 300zx master cylinders have the sensor wire coming out from the reservoir:

I'm not quite sure what type of plug connection it has though.
BTW my current S14 MC has two smaller prongs located more toward the outside of the plug itself. (if this helps any...anyone know if this plug is the same as the 300zx reservoir?)
It'd be a shitload eaiser if I had these parts in my hand =\....
Thanks for putting up with my trivial questions...

If it doesn't work. Cut your current connector, and crimp speaker terminals on it. Plug it in, if it doesn't work, flip it around.

Hey, I know this is late but I thought I'd let you know the brake master cylinder reservoir from the 240sx pops right into the 300ZX master cylinder perfectly. I just did this tonight and found that instead of wiring a new set up all I have to do is switch the reservoirs. I ran into the same problem when I bought mine at the local Autozone. I have an S13 but I'm pretty sure it's the same for the S14.

Yup solder will do wonders.
Although on s13 its fine, I never had any light come on. its just hanging there.
Asshat: Nope I dwelled within myself, plotting how to get into your sisters pants...

I just finished mine today. I used the S13 reservoir as well.

And to add to that, do not under any circumstances use excessive force to put on or remove said reservoir.
I used a 4ft prybar to remove and installed it by hand w/ some brake fluid for lube.
eh, worked. and a 1" MC on stock brakes (MC went out, planning on upgrading soon) feels awesome. makes me want ~1-1/8"+ on 300zx brakes.

You sir are a weakling if you need 4ft to break off a reservoir off the seal.
Also, I believe you have your measurments screwed the 17/16 coverts to 1 1/16, not 1 1/8.
But do it I have the mc on mine, and I love the things to death, they're awesome. Also abide and adhere to that FSM and you won't ever need to use excessive force again. Yet another reason why I would never let Nissan Techs touch my car (or anyone else), screw your certification if you don't use good judgement.

Not weak, I just love leverage. don't have to work nearly as hard, and when all I do all day is work on cars, less work is very good.
your right, 17/16 = 1-1/16, but i think even bigger than that would be nice on 300zx brakes.
