Just wondering how many of you guys park their car with either the E-brake up, or leave it in gear.

I pull the e-brake up since I had an autostart alarm before in my old s13 and I always put it in gear. You guys can figure out what happened.... :duh:

Negatives/Positives of doing each way?

I do both. redundancy is a good thing in this case, especially since it's so easy.

in gear
why? can cause more accidents if zoning out
advantage: on hills imo. turn wheel into curb ebrake and in gear (maybe if in SF or something)

ebrake handle, more then enough when just parked around flat areas in town. no worries.

for me..if ive been on my BRAKES like a MAD MAN i just shut off the car and put it in gear so my brakes can cool down. if im on a hill i think its plain and simple E-brake and in gear and turn the wheels. if none of the above, just E-brake.

I'd like to put it in gear, but I'm scared I'm going to forget it's in gear when I start it.

E-Brake. So You all can have the in gear parking shit. I don't think anyone here drives hard enough on the street to have the need to keep from E parking in order to cool off their brakes. .. .xcept . . .me. lol.

i park in gear and ebrake... its force of habbit for me to always check it to put in nutural before i start, as WHAT EVERY ONE ELSE SHOULD DO. Otherwise, its your fault for jumping into someone elses car and starting in gear without checking anyways.

If someone hits your car, Id worry about other things besides the tranny anyways, cuz obiously a hit strong enough to destroy your tranny probably took out more of the car.

But its all personal opinion.. should start a thread "who warms up thier car in the morning or justs jumps in and drives?"

depends on the car... NA KA 240sx? In gear and ebrake. SR20DET 180sx? ebrake only (turbo timer).

my car is wired such that it will not start in gear, so no fear of accidents there.
Ebrake + in gear

however, if you are on the track, you don't want to park w/ E-brake because it traps gasses and heat and such on your rear brakes and fucks everything up....u should leave leave car in gear + use ramps behind the wheels to prevent rolling

nah, dont do either.

what you REALLY gotta do is:
1. put a tire chalk under the front tires
or
B. hire someone to stand behind your car and make sure it doesnt roll down a hill (thats what i do)

oh, btw, HI!!!

Normal level surfaces = ebrake

parking on an incline = ebrake + in gear + wheels turned into curb just in case

Friends w/ EVOs and STis all have to park with ebrake and in gear on inclines, because ebrake alone won't hold the car. That only applies to steep inclines though.

Shift to Park, and Ebrake. :)

That's what I'd do on an auto.

So, have a lot of you disabled the clutch safety interlock (those that don't have remote start)? Or do s14s not have it? Because my car won't start without the clutch fully depressed, so I don't have to worry about slamming into another car at startup, and I always put it into neutral before starting anyway.

I always use both e-brake and leave it in gear, just in case. One night, I parked in front of my in-laws' house, which is on a moderate hill, and when I went to leave, my car wasn't in front of their house anymore, which scared the hell out of me. Turned out that, even though I usually use both e-brake and leave it in gear, I forgot to leave it in gear that night, and I happened to have not pulled up the e-brake as far as I usually do. My car rolled down the hill and into a neighbors yard two houses down, sitting right in front of their front door. I was lucky, if it had rolled 3 feet more to the left, it would have hit a cement wall, and if it had rolled about 5 feet farther, it would have run into their garage.

E-brake and in gear. When on a incline, I'll curb for fear of my car rolling down the hill or those cocky metermen. One day I'll have to leave it out of gear for my turbo timer but that's not going to be for days~

For my Corolla, I leave it in gears because its a old car and the lines are stretched.. But then again T50 trannys are weak and ebrakes rarely locks, its a old car.. I remember parking on a slight hill with the E brake on only pulled to the highest point and the car was slowly rolling back.. With my little brothers S13, I just leave it in gears so it would save the lines from stretching..

I was teaching my buddy how to drive stick in my 83 Prelude (a few years ago) and when he parked on a hill he left it e-brake only. We came back and it had rolled down the hill, through a yard, and up onto a HUGE lawn rock (like 3 feet high, a few feet wide). dented the fender, door, cracked the wheel, and broke the steering rack

I've parked e-brake + in gear for 10 years... it's ingrained into me

I usually leave it in gear + ebrake (a healthy habit to have living on a hill) but right now I have no choice but to just leave it in gear because I have no ebrake ( recent 5-lug swap ). I had to park on a crazy hill in SF last weekend and was so afraid the car would roll but luckily it didnt. Looks like some people here weren't as lucky as me :) . Why do some people start in gear? I thought that was extra wear on the clutch since it isnt fully disengaged until it was in neutral (even though you have your foot on the clutch)?

Just do both! depending on where you park. you can also put a brick next to the tire! jk
