How the F*CK do you get the bottom bolt to the left of the 3rd runner? I tried using an angle head on a socket wrench but even the socket+angle head is too thick that it hits some grey box kinda thing and won't give it the angle it needs to sit on it. A box wrench doesn't have enough angle either.. that's the last one holdin' me up..

picture missed but it's the one just behind runner 3 on the bottom

lol uhh, i ono, try to fit your hand through the left under w/a wrench, well my motor was dropped, but yeah i needed to disconnect the lower part of the intake manifold to take off the top mani because the 2 end screws that are attached to the bottom mani, there's also some hoses attached i needed to d/c, not sure if that helps lol

well how do you get the lower mani off without taking the top part off? I don't care about the order.. just as long as it all eventually comes off

there's 2 brackets holding it up, 1 has a screw on both ends near/attched to the middle of the lower mani and near the motor mount bracket, the other towards the front on the bottom next to it, might be hard since the alternators in the way of 1 screw, 3 screws total on that one, then there's all those hoses to d/c and all that caca around

that's what I meant with the angle head.. a head that can angle.. sorry I wasn't clearer before.. I didn't really know what it was called. but still at the end angle it couldn't go on the socket because it hit that gray sensor thing.. not really sure what it is

and thanks.. I'll try gettin' the lower mani off first

Are you going to sand it down and polish it and make it sexy? If so, good luck :)

Swing the alternator down, pull off the oil filter, then the plenum will drop.

You can also double nut the studs and try to pull them out of the plenum, allowing it to slide straight out instead of dropping it down first. I did that on mine and replaced the studs with bolts, that way it's easier to pull next time.

Oh, and throw those brackets below the plenum in the trash.

I don't need them for added strength and support?

and YES.. I'm goin' for the sexiness hahah

Ran my old motor for over five years without them. And I've tossed dozens of them on Ka and SRs for years. After you clean up the manifold there's less crap on it anyway, right?

I tossed the bellhousing gussets too later on, I think their main purpose is to prevent the transmission/engine buckling apart in a severe collision.

Remove the EGR valve and get you hand in there!!
Also, I suggest to keep at least one bracket. I dont think that the intake studs/screws are good enough to support the whole mani assembly.

They are. NASPORT motors don't run them either. Sunbelt Performance pointed it out to me one time long ago, that's why I initially removed mine. The manifold to head bolts are long and stout. How do you think a turbo manifold hangs off the exhaust side and doesn't need supports like those?

yah.. that's what I was thinking too.. Well the mani is off.. now I just have to figure out what can come off.. haha looks a little different from the NICO DIY for the s13 intake mani

extension with a wobble socket

i did two manifolds this way as well...

its a pita

one of my friends used a piece of electrical tape to keep the socket from wobbling too much. i don't know why it works, but it helped alot.
