just thought id share, bunch of my little toy cars, my mashi maro drift bunny, some cd's, and my kazama shift knob was stolen out of my car, while being serviced @ nissan. Service advisor was telling me, we cant reinburse you, i was like WTF, its a shift knob, bla bla bla yes sir but as written here were not liable for lost or stolen goods out of your car. I replied its a shift knob, its like your asking me to take off my wheels or sumptin before i take it to service, i dont care about anything else being stolen but my shift knob is gone. After not getting anywhere i walked up the the General managers office and started my whole story again. Long story short they gonna reinburse me. i stll want to find out who stole it though.

*sigh*
Dissapointing.
I can't believe something like that could happen and no one gets fired over it?! (so far) I hope u made a big stink w/management, cuz if no one gets fired for it, that's practically condoning the behavior.

You had an excellent point about the shift knob, that's just total crap.

PLEASE let us know the outcome, and DO consider talking to the cali BBB, just mentioning that should help your process.

its funny i thought the car would be more than safe being in a service dealer, gah now some of those guys, whoever stole it might want to try to take the rest of my car, since they probably have all my info and address.

and whats cali BBB Yoshi im at a complete loss when u said that??

morale of the story. 1) never do service anywhere but yourself.
2) never leave your car unattended if you disregarded #1

Call Nissan Corporate offices and let them know. They'll have so much heat on that dealer it won't even be funny. I'll bet you dollars to donuts it was a lot attendant that stole your shit.

oldskoo: Metro Nissan just seems shady as it is.

Dude Im not suprised, FUCK this cess pool. Im out of here today (few hours)and this just reaffirms my path into debt is well worth it so long as I get as far as here as possible. Good to hear your stuff ewas replaced, I had even worse results with my seatbelt at San Bernardino Nissan, off of Orange show.

They said they covered it and kept me there for hours to just end up being told the parts are special order, sure ok cool I uderstand. But if i wanted to return and get my car serviced I had to come back before or inbetween lunch and others would get priority because they aren't making any money. All within the week because weeknds are out of the question, then I got raped for an Alternator fuse for 19 bucks while the jackass is asking me for a vin number, and talking to his ese' co-worker about some inane topic.

And there it is.

Seriously though, all shops, even ratholes, clearly state that items left in the vehicle are the owner's responsibility and the shop isn't liable. Leaving a bunch of shit in your car is just asking for trouble. You knew that taking it in. You thnik they didn't open the hood and fool around under there too? They did. You're probably missing a few things in there as well.
While I try to never take my car anywhere I also don't drive around with a multitude of stuff in it either so there's less liabilty. I find it strange that people keep anything except floormats in their car.

stuff will always get stolen by people at the dealership. since the dealer is not liable they figure no one will investigate who stole stuff from the car and they won't get caught.

a local guy had his turbo b14 at courtesy nissan for service and his boost controller solenoid and some hose clamps were stolen. he complained and eventually they gave him a deal on the used car he wanted but told him to remove his b14 because they then refused to work on it. courtesy is good for parts but the service guys are dicks and sales isn't much better.

yeah, go to mgmt and tell them that you're going to go file a formal complaint to BBB and corporate office, and they will respond... it's a very big deal to them

I've had a similar experience at Elk Grove Nissan (Just south of Sacramento). Not nearly as bad as the other ones though.

I take the car in to have the engine bay steam cleaned, and I figure while I'm there I might as well get an oil change. I usually NEVER take my cars anywhere to get the oil changed because it is so easy, but I figured I'd just have them do it since it was already there.

Well, the steam clean went fine, but when I get home and inspect the oil filter there's some writing on it. "SR20 WHAT?? -NAME-" (I have a KA) The name written on it sounded like a screen name, I forgot what it was. I call up the dealership and let them know that someone wrote something offensive on my oil filter, and they just said that the lube guys write on the filter so that they can keep track of who did the work on what. I let it go because it was no big deal really, just some stupid kid.

About 4000 mi later, I change my oil and find that they used an oil drain washer that was too small for the thread, and the oil filter was torqued on way too tight.

i'm gonna workin' at a nissan dealer end of this summer for a month. i hear stories of people rippin' off service cars all the time, best thing to do is just take your stuff out like me whenever i leave it anywhere. Hah, one time I was in LA and was getting my car valet so I can hit up Chi's off Sunset. The driver looked all pissed off trying to get in and drivin 'it away because it was KA-T w/ a full 6pt cage w/ door bars and recaro seats. heh, it was the most worried hour of my freakin' life...

the way it works is they are liable if its attached to the vehicle, if its not attached they are not liable, technically they should have to pay for your shift knob and thats really it. but its good PR to pay for all the stuff since its fairly cheap.....
I had some stuff stolen out of a dsm while at a dealer getting recall work done.... they stole gauges, turbo timer, control unit for avc-r, and at the time the s-afc was brand new but still in a box.... they covered everything but the afc (this was after lawyer involvement by both parties, as soon as they found out stuff was stolen their lawyer called me, then I gave him my lawyers number because I wasn't getting the slide around...) then they recovered the stolen items when they saw them in the back of an employees vehicle... the stuff that was damaged they replaced/reimbursed and the rest of the stuff they reinstalled themselves for me and I ended up not paying for any expenses out of pocket...

wow, didnt reaize people got hassled left and right like that, i used to work in sales at good ole Elmore Toyota in the OC, let me tell you being on that side of the fence, people at the dealer would try everything and anything to rip people off, i never went to service much so i didnt know what was going on there, but salesmen are killers, one good thing though i know te salesman tricks now.

went a little off track there, but imma do what all u guys suggest, gonna mention BBB to them and see what happens

the new nissan dealership off alabama. dood that is fucked up. considering what I did to one of there sales reps testing out the track-model Z I wouldn't be surprised. I'd never go to dealer to get my car serviced. most of the regular dealerships are hiring people who either partially completed UTi or are freaking dropouts. all the good ones go to walter's or towards OC. one place i'd go to is import automotive off redlands, across the street from spreen honda. Kim is a cool guy and does very good work. besides I tihnk he stores the cars inside his shop if anything of value within the car.

true it's smart to not leave a bunch of stuff in your car whenever you take it in, but a shift knob? does this mean if someone has to take a car in for service they should return it to stock first just to prevent theft? as for those 'owners are responsible signs' those are nice to argue over at the dealership, but a lot of the time they won't hold up in court.

my family owns a couple dealerships. if someone caught wind of anybody stealing like that they'd be gone, end of story. if they didn't know who it was they'd find out.

Dealerships= No go, if i cant fix it myself it goes to a personally trusted mechanic, i deal with him and only him. Makes life a whole lot easier. My KAT isnt that quick but some give some lube jocky or paint guy a chance to rip on it and they will.

My advice is that you insist on a Master Technician working on your car. Master Techs are the most knowledgable and have the most to lose by doing something wrong.

Well here is the news, the Dealer is sending a check from corporate offices in montclair, and charged me half off on the service that they did, well they didnt do any service at all, couldn't find problem, but i had an initial service charge for them just to look at the car was 80 buckz, i paid 40. But im gonna keep in touch with the Service advisor i was working with, gonna see if he can get to the camera tapes and do some investigating

Was it a copper washer?

The reason i ask is that where I work we use coper washers that are expanded before use, and kinda thread on. When you tighten it it crushes into the threads sealing it completely. To take it off you simply snip it with dikes 180* apart.

I do most of the custom/aftermarket work (except on 300zx's, which the master tech specializes in) where I work, and any car that I see come in that is obviously a loved car gets extra details to protect it.

We normally keep the front row of service parking spaces open incase a car needs pushed in or out, but loved cars get parked there, with my bay doors open so I can watch them. Also I make sure to use felt backed covers over both fenders and the bumper, double thick for intensive work.

We're not all bad :'(
