For those coilover with full lenght adjustment and ride height adjustment.
What effect does the spring preload have?
could you tell me the effecto on preloading the spring?
Thanks
I read somwhere that the more coils you have for the height of the springs, the softer the spring rate is.
But people say preloading a spring makes it stiffer(?). It can aid in corner weighting your car without having to change the ride height.

Preloading a spring is just putting an initial compression on the spring. This increases the force it takes to compress the spring further. The spring rate does not change unless you have progressive rate springs. However, even with a constant spring rate, preloading the spring will make it feel stiffer because the springs will not compress until a compression force greater than the preload is achieved. Preloading the spring also reduces the amount compression travel AND rebound travel. Preloading springs is not a solution for soft springs.
