I'll be in Japan late August to mid September this year and I was wondering if anyone knew of any scrap yards/used parts places within Kobe, Kyoto and Tokyo? I know of a Yellowhat and UP garage outside the city, but I'm looking for as many as I can. Also, if anyone is over there or lives there and wants to meet up, let me know!

I dunno bout yards, but I DO have some good advice.
While on pub transit (which I guess is 100x better and more utilized than in the US), above all, MAINTAIN the japanese mentality of minding your own business!
One of my best friends was supposed to be in japan teaching english for the next 2 years, he left last thursday, and retured this past tuesday... I don't think he's allowed to go back. He was riding a bus from the airport to his new apartment (a long ways from the airport), toward the end of his ride, he noticed someone had forgotten their package on teh seat across from him. He took it up to the driver and tried to explain that it was left behind by someone... driver freaks out and radios the cops who come and arrest my friend after searching the box... (driver speaks no english, friend speaks only very broken japanese). The box contained 2 brick of marijuana (sp?). My friend spent the next 2.5 days in jail.
In japan, you're guilty until proven innocent. You also are NOT entitled to a phone call. So my friend was thrown in jail becuase they thought he was a package boy for the yakuza (or some wannabe yakuza faction). I guess I can see it, big white gaijin's first time in the country, he has a package that he claims isn't his...grrr. His work, which he'd of course not gone to yet, would not vouch for him, not even bail him out... they just worked a deal with the police that my friend would be allowed to leave jail IF he left the country asap. so 1.5 days later my friend is now back and hates japan.
Moral: MIND your own business. My friend is now banished from a whole country for doing nothing more that try to be a good sumaritan. :(
Watch yourself man. Gaijin aren't always look at in high regard, apparently quite the opposite sometimes.

from everything i've heard japan pretty much sucks unless you're a fuggin samurai. sucky weather, laws, people, more racism than here, cramped as hell, and everybody drives on the wrong side of the dang road.
EFF japan.
