Ok I was thinking about this one the other day. I have seen several tuner cars pulled over lately, and I have seen several posts on how the cops are cracking down on exhaust noise. How many Harleys have you guys seen pulled over for exhaust violation? If we pulled the mufflers off all our cars and ran straight pipes off the headers, we would be pulled over in about ten minutes. I will also bet that those Harleys are way louder than our cars.
Just an oberservation. Any thoughts?

True, but what can we do? They have something about 'modified' cars..

Next cop you see.. kill him. Then Import owners will get the same fear/respect as Harley owners.

i read a story a while back where some guy gets pulled over for his exhaust and the cop says something like "how would you like it if your sleeping and soembody with a loud exhaust drives by and wakes you up?"
and the dude says "well if your gonna give me a ticket you need to give those harleys tickets as well because their ride is just as loud if not louder"
and then a harley rides by.
cop lets the driver go w/o a ticket

Haha that's funny too. Yes, we all know it's pretty annoying, but what can we do. I don't think any of this will stop anytime soon, but they will be come more strict.

"loud pipes save lives"...I had quite the argument with a bike who supported loud pipes on bikes but not on cars. He says bikes are small and easy to miss, consequensly getting hit by cars. The loud pipes alert the people driving the cars. Blaa Blaa Blaa, he was a big guy and I gave up, end of story.

as a motorcycle rider i am 100% for LOUD exhaust on motorcycles. you probably dont realize it but loud exhaust CAN save your life if you ride. think about it....how many times have you been cut off in your 2500+pound 4 wheeled machine? all because the person "didnt see you" aka, they werent looking. now imagine being on a 400-700 pound two wheeled machine and getting cut off and/or hit cause somebody wasnt looking....whats gonna happen? they will hit you, you will hit the ground then you will go to the hospital. basically a loud exhaust can save your life on a motorcycle.

Most states have different laws dealing with exhaust sound levels for cars and bikes.
Example: Car = 95Db, Motorcycle = 110Db.
Maybe Law Enforcement Officials like Bikes better then cars, or maybe it has to do with the shorter exhaust system. I honestly don't know.
Unless we get someone in here with Hard Evidence or Written Law that may explain it better, this argument is pretty much just whining.
"How come his bike can be louder then my car? How come Billy get's to stay out after dark?" :fruit:

Ok this is what I found for California.
California Motor Vehicle Code sec. 27150.(a)
Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with adequate muffler in constant opperation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cut out, bypass, or simular device.
sec.27201 Motorcycle limit
The noise limit of 92 dbA shall apply to all motorcycles manufactured before 1970.
The following noise limits shall apply to any motorcycle manufactured:
(1) After 1969, before 1973 88 dbA
(2) After 1972, before 1975 86 dbA
(3) After 1974, before 1986 83 dbA
(4) After 1985 80 dbA
This is the law, as to why it is not enforced I can only speculate. I have heard from a police officer friend that " alot of cops ride Harleys and do not believe the law has merit, so it is not strictly enforced." Again this is only one police officer that told me this.
Let's sue the state for unequal protection under the law.

saw on the news the other night that police are going to crack down hard on bikes with loud exhausts this summer... that it had only been a week and they had already written something like 25 tickets. beware bikers.
edit: that was LA County just fyi.

agreed...bikes need to be loud and bright...i dont give a fuck if you think my exhaust is too loud or my high beams are on...you saw/heard me right? im happy then...and just to clear the name of bikers everywhere...when there is traffic and bikes "lane split" (or go in between lanes/traffic) we're revving for a reason shhhtupid...its not because we think were cool, because thats an obvious point  , but for you fools to hear us coming by...and its totally legal so let us do it and stop purposely boxing us out!!!!! :rl:
