Is there any legal way to remove an SRS system? I'd like to replace the stock wheel with an aftermarket one. Thanks.

if you want to do it yourself you need to get a "tamper resistant torxs bit"....it is a special tool that is shaped kinda like a rounded six point star with a hole in the middle of it...as far as steering wheel removal..it is simple...if you have this tool...get yourself a FSM or a chiltons...unless you want me to just give you the entire steps....

oh yeah and to my knowledge it is not illegal to remove the SRS system

I don't think I need the removal steps. I have a good manual. But a guy in an aftermarket shop told me it was illegal to mess with the airbags. Anyone know about this for sure?
I'm pretty sure its illegal everywhere. But so is an exhaust and excessive (ie: 2"+?) lowering. If you only have drivers side, take your back seat out and hit the sensor with a hammer just to see what happens will it brake the sensor or deploy the air bag? Then you could just replace it with the aftermarket wheel. Of course, if you have a passenger side airbag this would not be a good idea

yo DSC...that is a good idea....just watch out when you hit the box.....have you ever sat and watched an air-bag deploy.....coolest damn thing ever....but it can really hurt you if you are not careful....you are just safer removing the airbags without deploying them and then selling them

In NC (don't want to speak on behalf of all states), it's illegal to have an aftermarket steering wheel in there since if a car originally has an airbag in it, it needs to stay that way. One reason can be if you get in an accident that can be blamed on someone else, this can help you out and will also prevent some legal trouble. You can't sue them if you took your airbag out and busted open your skull even though it was their fault since you didn't obey the law to keep that airbag in there. But will a cop notice it? Will your insurance company remember this? Guess it's supposed to be more for a "race car," so just see if it's worth it.
