View Full Version : I'm getting HID!!! (and sleepy eye question)

I'm so friggin giddy it's insane! hahaha

I got a pair of E46 bixenon projectors, bulbs, ballasts, and ignitors...cost me $375. Okay price. They'll be retroed onto my s13 coupe, clearcorners style, keeping the popups and using a fog light in the second place (as opposed to the second headlight, if that makes sense...that's legal right?).

I'm figuring I'll make the whole thing from plexiglass or sheet metal. I need to see how heavy they are before I can determine much more.

So the sleepy eye question is if I cut the infamous brown wire on the back of the headlight button, I'll be able to adjust how high they go...I get that much. But does that mean they only come up that high, or that's where they stay permanently, or that's as low down as they go? Ideally, I'd like for the popups to fold down to look stock, but only come up about halfway or so when I turn on the lights.

Any help is appreciated :D

that way of doing the sleepy eye makes it so you can control the hight of the pop-ups only when they are off, if you turn your lights on agian, the pop ups will go back to full open position. you need to do a pivot controller if you want to turn your lights on and still have them sleepy-eyed. here this guy made a vid of how to do it and how it works.

enjoy.

damn thats like so much easier than the way i did it.. damn light green wire.

so if i cut the brown wire the lights will stay on and be in the sleepy mode?

how do you get the lights to go up then?

I thought you only had to pull a fuse after you adjuste them to make them stay in the position you want them. I never heard about cutting wires...

I want mine to only go up to a certain point....I think most of you are talking about having them only go down to a certain point.

Good luck I hope you know what you're doing and have the facilities.

I can show you how to retro it into a full pop up but it'll only be able to be sleepy eye when not in use....

nioce transition. Now that i've run hids for a while (e46 single xenon), I can't tell whether the headlights are on or not in halogen lit cars.

I've got a dremel, and I'm full of ingenuity! I'll figure something out :)

So you know exactly what I'm talking about...same setup I'll be having. You have s13 or s14? If s13, any tips on the sleepy eye thing?

I'll give you a hint about making the pop ups come UP to the same height each time...It's not an electrical issue. You actually have to modify the mechanism.

Thanks for the hint. I already knew that one though, so no cookie for you ;) Any more hints?

Right Click, Save As...Dowload might be a little slow. It's 20mbs worth.

it's In Japanese, but this is EXACTLY what you are looking for.

I've seen the video...but it's not what I want. Thanks though :) With that set up, the lights can't really be properly positioned cause there's no guarantee that they'll go up to the same position every time, so aiming them would be incredibly hard.

If your trying to leave you pop-ups in sleepy-eye mode, while lights are still on. After you have cut the brown wire to get the sleepy-eye effect. Ever think of unpluging the headlight motors??? That's what I did. Simplest fix to your problem.
