Foot constantly on clutch pedal??

I've noticed in some racing/drift videos drivers who keep their left foot constantly on the clutch pedal when engaging or disengaging the clutch.

Does anyone do this?

I find it nearly impossible to drive my car like this. Not to mention I actually have to lift my foot to get it on the clutch pedal unlike my brake and gas. :Ownedd:

i never take my foot off the clutch i donno guess its habbit...
plus i got big feet so i just rest my heel on the floor with my foot back.
its not hard at all

i dunno how much they rest on it. You can prematurely wear your clutch out if you rest your foot on it. They keep there foot over the pedal because they use it so often.

I have big feet too but I find it impossible to do that (rest heel on floor). Plus with the free play of the clutch its always like 40% depressed if I rest my foot on the clutch pedal.

Wouldn't it just increase the chances of the clutch slipping or losing power (from the clutch being partially disengaged) by driving like that?

and this is the best reason to not do it...

I am full comfortable using that dead pedal on the far left for what it is there for, my foot isn't long enough for me to rest the heel on the floor for anything but the gas and brake, the clutch requires that I actually lift my foot.

i try not rest my foot on the clutch but its a bad habit.. i figure the foots gonna be back there in a few secs anyways might as well leave it there

id o it from tim eto time and i hav a really shitty ass clutch that needs to be replaced, even so i dont ever slip even on heavy accells. but then, my ankle is really flexible so that with my heel on the floor i can push the clutch all the way in or let it out more than enuff to make sure it engages without slipping. its abitch to keep lifting my foot off the clutch and putting it on the dead pedal every time i shift, especially when taking a lot of corners and what not

With all clutches there is some general play involved where you can leave your foot on the clutch w/o engaging it at all. I would imagine that how often the driver moved away from the clutch would be dependant on how technical the course is.

You see it a lot during acceleration out of a corner, the driver's managing how much weight they apply to the gas pedal; same goes for the clutch. It's in, its down a lil bit, but no where near enough to engage the clutch. 2 second's later you'll be shifting again anyway, just a convenience thing i suppose.

I take my foot off the pedal when riding @ crusing speed.

i do it all the time, removed my dead pedal.... kinda gets in the way of side steppin...or poppin i should say, same clutch still going 2 years strong... i think im gonna change it out after my smog... :2f2f:

some guys do it because they ride the clutch in drifting. like motorcross guys i do believe do same sometimes. 1/2 clutch and changing how much clutch there is can be a technique for drifting. i know koguchi rides the clutch always.

personally i put my foot down after but sometimes i find myself w/ my foot over it. a bucket seat of course helps a lot otherwise you will be sliding all over the car seat.

yah resting the foot over or on the clutch pedal is so much easier with a bucket seat, since it holds your legs closer together and minimizes horizontal and forward movement. you can adjust the pivot point on your clutch pedal with more freeplay so you can rest on the pedal and minimize the chances of prematurely wearing out the throwout bearing by driving like that.. personally I like that setup, my left foot is closer in times I need to left foot brake.

I don't know about sliding, but I find myself knocking my knee up against the door panel whenever i engage a right turn drift, that shit is annoying. I've been thinking weither or not the larger side boulsters will hold my placement better, the BriX II should do, but I had my eye set on the RecarO SpeeD Recliner. .. .Get Back.

If your at an event or tracking your car, keep your foot over it so you can kick this shit out of it. Daily driving, Id say it was a poor habit to get into.

would this semi engagement of the clutch keep the wheels locked? thats what i figured, it would be kinda like revving it in neutral but the clutch is sorta grabbing? or am i wrong, example- riding the cluch, rev a little, clutch kick, clutch out

i ushally have part of my foot on the dead pedal and i have my free play adjusted so i can leave my foot on it and it isnt engaugeing. i can push it in like 1"-1.5" before it starts to engauge, but i messed with it alot, once u push it past that its a really firm pedal.

well i'm 6'2 and I have big feet I can't use the dead pedal.. there is just not enough room I have my foot there but I flex my ankle back so i'm not touching the pedal.. 2 secounds later it's time to shift again so i'm not to uncomfortable.. once I get to 4th or 5th (whatever is better for the road i'm on) I just put my foot flat on the floor..

i am 6'1" size 12 shoe...i dont have any problems doin it when i wear speedcats or some other tight shoes
