This thread will be for discussion of the Tanabe Sustec Pro DD's for the 89-94 S13, and 95-98 S14. Hopefully, this will help answer any questions people may have about this particular suspension, and will show up when users new and old use the SEARCH function to look for info on the one and only, original drift spec, the Sustec Pro DD.

The DD's will not make you drift, nor will any adjustable suspension, this is all dependent on the driver.

If you do decide to use these for drifting applications, these were specifically designed several years ago to handle the added abuse resulting from that type of driving. The true definition behind our 'Drift Spec' is in the build quality and reliability, as drifting is arguably the most destructive type of driving your can subject your car to. This is a very rugged suspension.

The DD's are excellent for standard grip oriented driving, which is evidenced in the spring rates, which promote a high level of traction. Drifting is a matter of controlling/controllable traction.

iirc, 10/8k spring rates, with helper spring in the rear.

just wanted to know hows the dampening of the dd's compared to the pro ss. I'm riding on the pro ss right now, set at recommended dampening rate F:2/R:4 and it's stiff at certain times.
i guess the pro ss is more towards street driven since it's installed on stock rubber mounts. but i would have opted for the pro dd's since pro ss + f/r pillowball mounts comes out to the same as pro dd's price.
but all in all, the pro ss is still a great suspension upgrade

how tight should one make the helper spring/preload
i was adjusting mine tonight and my lower bracket rear is stuck. ill unstuck it later, ithink got some nasty grit in their.

i love my Tanabe DD btw. hehe..so comfy!

Tanabe DD's are alread priced pretty well....
for the price they do a lot more and feel better than when i had Cusco Comp Zero 2's which cost about $500 more

i seen it . with tax cuz im a cali residetn it will become like 1636.18 i would buy it if it was 1500 flat

I was literally going to buy these last week, but 2 days before i bought em i decided to part out my car.


I would also like to see some shock dyno numbers. Then we can compare with the Tein Superdrift which also have 10/8 rates. (Assuming we can get a hold of either shockdyno results)

I dont like the fact that most manufacturers dont put out shock dyno results for their stuff. I know most people wouldnt even understand it, but some of us do, and my only assumptions are that

1-they think we're too stupid to care
2-people would be appalled at what they saw and go with something different.

Shock dynoes are especially important because people are subjective. For example..I've read Dousan say more than once that the valving on Tein HE's isn't strong enough even on full stiff...well? I dunno what he's comparing them to. Are they just completely too weak even for the 8/6 rates? If so they why do people throw 9/7 springs on them . I have friends that use HE's that say they are fine.. But then again they are the only coilovers they have used. So what are they comparing them to? i dunno. Maybe i can go search for them..but they should be right there on Tein's website. A different dyno for each shock , and furthermore for each application, being that they are a top seller at the moment. The shock is what we're paying for anyways.

I'm using Tein as an example only because so many freakin people buy them.

Kuah from SPL parts did a great job selling the KTS to Zilvia. He put out numbers..even if they are from a Z32 shock. At least it's something to look at. Kudos to Tanabe for posting here and getting feedback. It let's us know that you give a crap.
