When I purchased my Silvia, I was told that it was ROM tuned but I am not sure exactly how that works with the OEM ECU system.
Does anyone see a difference between my ECU and a standard OEM SR20DET (redtop) ECU?
Here are some pics...

Thanks for any assistance.

The board thats risen above the main board is called a daughterboard. I've seen that board before and its for DIY tuners, and is most likely not a commercial tune. Where did u get it from and is there a sticker on the cover of the ecu?

Commercial tuners use it also. In order to ROM tune an s13 sr20 you need a daughterboard. Yes your ECU was ROM tuned.

Thanks for the clarification on the "daughter board". Just curious since the car came with a ROM tune, I don't know exactly what benefits I get from a ROM tune.

Don't ever take those white stickers off.
The ROM tune alows you to keep all the ECU functions while triming the maps for you new set up.

Better timing/fuel curve, higher or no rev limit, no speed cuts at 120 mph, tuned for higher boost *more than likely 14 psi*. Down side is always remember that its tuned for japanese 100 octane, piss water 91 octane sucks

Does anyone know if this Redtop ECU will swap over to a s13 Blacktop motor? I think I read somewhere that the ECU's wont swap over for some reason.
Oh and we get 93 octane piss water over here ... :hsdance:

Japan has 100 and 95 octane gas cause they only use RON to rate their gas. We however use RON+MON/2(on every gas pump). 100 Japanse octane is closer to our 93.
