OK guys, I have another coilover thread going but haven't gotten a definitive answer to this question and I need one by tomorrow morning ;)
How can I check used coilovers to see if they're blown. I guess I need to take off the top plate/spring. I was told I don't need spring compressors for that...is this true? If so, what do I do, adjust the perches all the way out and the spring will be loose? These have helper springs on the bottom if that makes a difference. I just need to know how to check for blown struts.
Thanks guys, and sorry for the noobish question, but I'm a coilover virgin :ugh:

Just twist the pirch all the way down and even if it has helper springs they arent super stiff just turn it up side down and push it down and whala. another thing to look for is if the piston is leaking oil or if its oily around the piston seals. other then that you should be set.

Twist the perch all the way down as in as loose (far apart) as it will go? So as not to preload the spring, right? What do you mean by turn it upside down and push it down? After I take off the spring and top plate?
Just clarifying so I know what to do tomorrow when I look at them.
1. Loosen perches all teh way to the bottom (this should let the spring be loose with no preload, right?
2.take off top plate and spring
3. push strut in and hope it comes back out...lol
Thanks,
Bryan

Also, There is a small dent in the shock body on one of the rears (Tein HA). It's all teh way at the bottom and isn't very deep. How far down does teh piston travel and do I need to worry about it. he said he was told the piston didn't go anywhere near that far down and said they were fine for teh 3k miles he ran them.
Thanks guys!

I've got sportlines now... They aren't low enough. That's ok though, cuz the C-West kit is gone and now I have coilovers ;)
This thread can be closed/locked now, thanks!
