I was just wondering if it is illegal to have the front license plate off. The front license plate is hella ugly when its on so i decided to take it off. I live in Seattle, Washington

Those are local laws, it's hard to know w/o knowing where you live. Here in VA it is illegal to have them off, but plenty of people do it anyways. Cops don't seem to mind either...

DrDubble is right. Some states require it, some don't. OK doesn't require front plates, but Illinois and Virginia do. I believe Missouri does, too. If you do have an SR, like your name implies, I wouldn't try going w/o it--you may get hassled if the cop notices your exhaust sounds/smells different, or something like that. I wouldn't take the chance.

in TX and CA you dont but i allways keep it in my car because they might ask you to put it in the front window
just say your car is too low profile but be happy to put it in the window if they tell you to jsut remove it later
when i get my front valance on, me gonna tuck the plate in behind by my rad, so it's basically out of view, but mounted on the fron nonetheless.
i seen this done a few times, better that than taking it completely off, you may not get caught but geting caught once makes it not worth while...
or you could put it on the front dash in your windshield too.

My sisters been pulled over 5 times for no front tag in her firebird. Of course, she gets out of it every time since shes a correctional officer.
I heard that a lot of japanese tuners/racers/whatever install their plate on a hinge on the front, so that it lays flat at high speeds, supposedly to avoid "speed cameras"..just an idea.

Yeah, it varies from state to state, but I don't think that cops care too much. Unless they are in a really bad mood, or just don't like you, they wont pull you over. However, if you get pulled over for something else (like speeding) they'll put that on you as well (as with the seatbelts nowadays). My friend gets pulled over for the front tags all the time. He drives a camaro but he just refuses to put the front tags on. As I recall him saying you get around $40 fine and 1 pt.... so it ain't htat bad <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

i failed my inspection because of no front plate , so i looked for a solution , and there are these clips on the bumper that seem to be well , gone on mine , just the hole sare there(90 hatchback) but anyway , i had an idea based on the one about the hinges , i have these sticky tags at my work that you can run zip ties through (they're for running wires around things , so i just stuck those on an inconspicuous place on my bumper and hung the plate down with zip ties gonna work on the rest later , maybe a clip to hold up as well as down , need a little more imagineering
cop said something about mine too once but didn't write me up for it , and when i got my inspection , i had it in the window and it didn't work

actually, it is illegal to have your front plate off in cali. my friend, (after getting in to a car accident) got another warning ticket (10 bucks) to put the front plate on. and as camaras get more common (somehow they take the front, much to my surprise), the police will b more strict
