DRIFT DAY NORCAL - REGISTER HERE (http://www.ddnorcal.com)
14 spots left

Please check the website for any further information, or this post at the Club4AG forums: HERE (http://forums.club4ag.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=107973)

The event will be held once again at the Golden Gate Fields lower parking lot in Albany (along 80, about 10 miles west of UC Berkeley). Registration will be open very soon (most likely on the 4th), so keep your dates open! The last event was deemed a success and Golden Gate Fields management was very pleased with how we handled ourselves, keep it up guys, this may be the start of regular events within the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

This will be a great opportunity for any extra practice and vehicle shakedowns for local guys entering Formula D Sears Point, as that event will be the following weekend. Like last event, we are accepting 45 guys maximum and there is a possibility we may open a Sunday event if there enough interest.

To all the entries from the previous event that missed out on a DDNorcal sticker, I am very sorry about that. We have a list of those who to send out to and we will try to send out your stickers soon.

We'd also like to thank Mike Ruane, and Sarah Mays of mophos.net photography for the great pictures and letting me use them in the website design, you guys take awesome pictures.

Thanks,
Drift Day Norcal Staff

I dont see you guys trying to put on any drift events...quit complaining, if you want a better venue then try looking for other places, planning it, fronting thousands of dollars FOR A WEEKEND event for everybody else to run...yea yea its a parking lot event, but what other venues that are tracks would allow NorCal peeps? Al (Private Events) is working with NASA to do Infineon and NCDA is doing Altamont, Thunderhill is way booked in advanced and is $$$$ too.... Why dont you Shock Drifting guys rent out Laguna Seca ($10,000 +)

Altamont track is not more of a challenge with nothing to be scared of on that "track"....granted it is a track, but with walls being a million feet away from the ideal lines, slight inclines, and barely any transitions makes it nothing special...

Most of you guys came out to the Al's Stockton event, it was a PARKING LOT event that was a lot smaller, yet you didnt complain about it being a parking lot.

organizations give Norcal people more opportunities to come out to drift in a safe environment and people still bag on it....geeeesh, NorCal is fucking lame

I dont see you guys trying to put on any drift events...quit complaining

Who's complaining? Just stating the obvious, that GGF's pavement is similar to that of the surface of the moon, and it chunks tires... so therefore, some people would prefer not to drive there, and are stating their OPINION.

Why dont you Shock Drifting guys rent out Laguna Seca ($10,000 +)

'cause Laguna Seca won't let 'em DRIFF there? And its $10,000...

Most of you guys came out to the Al's Stockton event, it was a PARKING LOT event that was a lot smaller, yet you didnt complain about it being a parking lot.

Except that Al's event was a private test event and had like, 20 people.

So of course people won't complain when you compare it to a event that had, oh, 45 people.

And "instructors" cutting in line. :hahano:

organizations give Norcal people more opportunities to come out to drift in a safe environment and people still bag on it....

Again, who's bagging? Nobody said "Fuck Drift Day, Drift Day is gay" etc... Super Xander simply stated his PREFERENCE for a "race track" versus cone dodging on the moon.

He even said despite that, he is going to the event.

geeeesh, NorCal is fucking lame

Then fucking move to SoCal. :goyou:

Wuts wrong with infineon.... USdrift had been there...dday should be all Up on infineon....i dont get it :o

-for one Al (Private Events) and Nasa/US Drift are working on it
-track time is booked up WAAAAY in advanced (all popular racetracks are like this)
-it costs lots of money: you either have a HIGH entry fee and LOW amount of drivers, or you have CHEAP entry fee and LOTS of drivers to AT LEAST break even. Either way it will be expensive and finding a happy medium is tough, partly because people are cheap and dont realize that drifting isn't cheap.
-premium race tracks don't like drifting on the track because it "tears up the asphalt" and repaving is $$$$$
-Oakland Coliseum only allows a certain portion of their lot to use for auto events. The side they let use is WAY too small for a drifting event...

if you'd think securing a spot and fronting Thousands of dollars is easy, i'd suggest you calling the tracks and give them your proposal, contacting city officials, talking with the city fire dept., hiring catering, renting outhouses, providing insurance, getting all sorts of forms, etc etc etc....

you didn't think any private organizations tried yet? NASA is HUGE and have been an established name for years. They have the manpower, time, money, and reputation to secure track spots. US Drift at Infineon is awesome and im looking forward to more events with US Drift

Coliseum aint that small... Ive autoXed at both places and seems the same... but it has been a while. Coliseum would be awesome cuz thats probly the best pavement in the local bay area... that could possibly be used for Drifting [no more candleshtick after DDay Norcal 0 ~before #1]. If only we could get Alameda Point!!!!

Go bug those bastards DDay staff!!!!

I think Alemeda Point is expensive as well. Not sure but I think you have to have a membership with them. SCCA or something and a porshe community have one I think but its expensive. Crab Drifting tried to get an event going on there. Either that or you have to have some Navel membership or somthing like that to there.

Crabdrifting is dead. Alameda Point was mentioned as a possible location for crabdrifting but it was never really looked into. I remember a few months ago WDC had Alameda Point listed as an event location but I guess that fell through. Hey, if the Myth Busters can go there and shoot cannons all day I think we could at least have 50 cars drifting. That place is HUUUUUUUUUUUGE. Check out google maps satellite images.
I'll be at GGF though with a truck full of tires.

We do realize the tire wear problem at GGF.

The tire wear seems to vary from person to person. Some people wore out through their tires by lunchtime, while others like Daijiro used up only one set for the entire day while making long, smokey drifts, and 70+ mph entries. It has something to do the gravel problem. If you stay on the correct line, you'll avoid gravel and your tires will last longer because the gravel has been swept to the sides. But if you spin out or drift off line, you run into the gravel and it chunks your tires. Running a higher tire pressure than usual also helps at GGF so you don't bald off the edges of your tires.

We are looking into what it would take for GGF to repave their lower lot, because GGF is actually a nice venue if you ignore the gravel problem. A repave would benefit the local autoX'ers since they complain about the gravel too. Drift Showoff is supposedly doing an event at GGF later this year. Maybe we can work with the other organizations to do this.

The thing about Oakland.

Personally, I would prefer Oakland Colisuem as their surface is relatively smooth, and they have a decently sized lot. The area is very expensive to rent though (everything in the Bay Area is expensive actually), and requires the presence of two Oakland PD motorcycle units, security, and Colisuem staff which we would have to pay for by the hour. It doesn't help us that Oakland is the home to sideshows and drifting looks like a sideshow with skill to the untrained eye (Coliseum management actually told us there was a request for a legalized sideshow on Coliseum grounds, but was quickly turned down).

We have actually been approved by Colisuem management to run a drift event in the past but was never able to do it because of the added costs of hiring police, Oakland staff, insurance, and security deposit. We will still try to persue Colisuem and hope to have an event there in the future.

didnt dai run like....10 times...tops. maybe that would explain the 1 set of tires.... and wouldnt u also think that maybe it was because he uses brand new tires..that his set lasted so long. the gravel isnt the problem..its the actual surface itself.. super rough.but watever game on

I have ONE BIG QUESTION. Can the experienced drivers tandom?
