mounting a stretched tire method

hey guys, is there some method of sealing the bead on a stretched tire? Im running 17x9 all around wheels and im going to run 225/45 and 235/45 so they will be somewhat stretched. I used to work at Merchants Tire and auto and mounted tires most of hte time, but we never really got any performance cars that wanted thier tires streched.

anyknow have expirience on this field?

225 is hardly even a stretch, neither is 235

a good stretch would be like a 215/40

The tire guy at Buttonwillow was using what he called a "bead sealer" to get the 185s on my corolla's 14x7s (yes, I know, hardly a stretch). It was like a 5 gallon air tank with a wide 4" open nozzle at one end with a valve. He pressurized it then set the wheel down, aimed the nozzle in at it and cranked the valve open and all the air rushed out and forced both ends to stretch out and lock instantly. I have no idea if this is common equipment at tire shops though, but it was a neat little thing.

We use them to seal big truck tires as well as car tires...

using stretched tires, your using a smaller width tire so yes, there is less contact with the ground however it wil lfeel much more responsive due to less sideway flex.




you guys are making me feel bad... i couldn't get the 225s on LOL.
