I dont know whether i`m allowed to chat off topic here anymore but seeing as there isnt a seperate off topic section set up as yet i`ll post it here under heading OFF TOPIC to try and keep some order about things.
I have made a friend who likes anime and manga and wanted to send them a photojam (like the one i put up with the skyline slideshow the other day) with a large selection of anime and manga pics to background music.
The only problem is i dont even know what these 2 things are let alone know what and where to get the pics for a good slideshow.
Can any fans of the aforementioned subjects direct me to a site with preferably free pics or somethin and give me an idea on what would be a good slideshow to put together to music to impress a fan of the subject.
Any help appreciated.
I post this here cos i have seen a good while ago a thread here where a lot of you expressed your enjoyment of the aforementioned subjects.

Anime is basically Japanese cartoons, good stuff, much more mature than our kiddy cartoons here in the USA.

Manga is usually what those cartoons are based off of.  Manga is like a graphic novel (large comic book).

http://www.mit.edu:8001/people/rei/Anime.html

http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Towers/6603/ring.html

http://www.ex.org/

I'm sure you should be able to find plenty of pictures between all of those.

But don't forget to include some Initial D in that! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

w3rd. &nbsp; For anime images, go to various galleries that's posted on the Anime Turnpike (http://www.anipike.com). Here's a run down of some series to grab pictures from..

-Trigun (dude with tall blonde spikey hair and a huge ass hand gun's the main character, his name is Vash. For some reason, he's got a huge "Dead or Alive" reward on his head for supposedly killing a governer, mayor, or whatever years ago. He's just some goofy ass guy who's really good with a gun.)

-Cowboy Bebop (series about bounty hunters and shit, dope ass artwork. Musical composition is badass just like the animation. &nbsp; It's all jazz music and blues.)

-Rurouni Kenshin (A swordsman who used to be a hired assassin by the government tries to make up for his past by being a good guy. He's given up on killing and now uses a reverse bladed sword so he hits with the blunt side while the sharp side is the other way around. Yea, he does good with his mAd SkILLz and eventually befriends a bunch of folks.)

-Serial Experiments Lain (Trippy-ass techno psycho thriller about the internet meshing with reality. Some images are trippy as hell. Some are cool, like the one with Lain, who's the main character, workin' a turntable, and a mixer, with big ass headphones on, while wearing a bear cap.)

-Neon Genesis Evangelion (um...aliens called "angels" coming to earth to destroy shit and possibly end the world, but there's some kids piloting huge ass humanoid robots to kick their asses with a bit of the "psycho thriller" plot twist in it too. Dope artwork.)

-Ah! My Goddess (Dude calls up a restaurant to order Chinese food, instead, he ends up calling a Goddess hotline, then the Goddess pops up to grant him his wish. &nbsp;Dude jokingly says he wants a girl like her. &nbsp; Then wacky/serious/humorous/lubby-dubby stuff happens from there.)

-Noir (One blonde chick and a teenage girl team up to be assassins around Europe. They're hired to kill off dirty politicians and shady ass people. They get tangled up in government conspiracies and other secretive stuff. Good shit.)

If you want images, &nbsp;holler at me. &nbsp;I've got tons.

I love your taste in Anime, Takumi! &nbsp;I haven't seen Noir though, that's one that I'm going to have to check out. &nbsp;

Kite is a good movie for another assassin flick. &nbsp;Princess Mononoke and Akira are probably the two most popular to ever come out, and Ninja Scroll is pretty badass too. &nbsp; There are lots of good ones, too many to list.

Since you listed some of the series' that are out, Takumi, I thought I should list a few movies. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'>

if u guys are into any mecha anime (anime that revolves around worlds, whether our own or alien) u guys gotta check out these pickzors =D

PatLabor: had a movie, then series, then 2nd movie i think (not sure if that's the order), about neo-tokyo where the new types of construction/police tool/army weapons/terrorist attacks consist of huge ass robots. EXCELLENT anime, u gotta watch these, i loved them.

Macross: there are too many movies/series' to name... they're all good. *sigh, tears of joy and reminiscence begin to form in eyes* that was the start of my obsession with mechs...

Evangelion: also huge ass robots kickin ass as takumi stated, but omg... it gets SOOO philosophical it's damn awesome... they totally took an utterly deep approach to makin these mecha animes... its stunning.

Gundam: ah yes, another cult classic when it comes to mecha anime. too many movies/series' to name. its really good too, although i didnt really watch much of it till about a year ago.

hmmm... i cant think of any other really good mecha anime that ive watched...

oh yah, if u get the chance, u gotta watch the whole "Tenchi Muyo" (did i spell that right?) series, although its sorta "fake anime" cuz its sponsored by pioneer whatever... ppl have alot of biases about it, but i utterly loved it. it was almost as funny as ah my goddess in my opinion, maybe even funnier =]

oh yah, another good one is: "Love Hena" (did i spell that right?) i watched some episodes of that... OMG!!! lol funny as hell =DDD

haha, anime is damn good stuff... ah, just reminiscing about all the ones ive watched brings a tear of joy to my eye... if only life were as pleasant hehe.

hope that helps a bit =]

i dont have any site links or anything, but if u search for those names, there should be a page or two of sites dedicated to them.

oh yah, as always... u gotta watch initial D... that is probably the absolute best "quicky" anime ive ever watched. (i say quickie cuz it had a movie that could stand alone although they're so much better if u watch all the previous series' and such) also, u could technically watch any series within the whole set without really missin too much storyline wise, its pretty obvious what has, hasnt, will, and wont happen... ... ...
i still got hooked on it ultra fast though =D

ok, that's about it.

[edit]
oh yah, i forgot... u HAVE to watch trigun. it's really short (like 26 or 27 episodes i think) but it is totally entertaining. its ultra funny, but has some really crazy action scenes near the end of the series. its AWESOME =D
i just wish there was more =[ *cries*

Have you guys seen "Gasaraki"? &nbsp;I've been interested to hear some opinions on that series. &nbsp; It looks like it has lots of potential, but I don't know anyone that has seen it.

I've heard good things about it. &nbsp; The opener looks really dope and I like the music.

Yea, like some of the ones listed up above...

- Love Hina (Boy graduates from high school, then takes the test to get into Todai University, which is like...Japan's equivalent to like...Harvard or Yale, I believe, well it's a good school. &nbsp;Anyway, he fails, but he vowed to keep trying so he can meet up with a childhood love interest. &nbsp;Eventually he has to move out to the Hinata Inn, which happens to be the girls' dormitory in the hot springs cuz his grandmother or whoever said he has to help out as the inn's new manager. &nbsp;Anyway, the story takes off from there on.)

- Tenchi Muyo! (Translated to "No Need For Tenchi". You've got a teenage boy, living in the neck of the woods in a house with his grandfather and father. &nbsp;Well, let's just say alien girls eventually drop by and eventually they have to live with them.)

Although Love Hina and Tenchi Muyo! fall within the same catagory and formula, they aren't like...perverse anime. &nbsp; They just get some funny ass situations thrown into them like love triangles and what have you.

Here's some more of my favorites....

- Martian Successor Nadesico (Dude is a cook with a disturbing past with some alien robots destroying his hometown a few years prior. &nbsp;Anyway, he gets fired from his current job for like...screwing up. &nbsp; Then he applies for a job at a spaceship as well...a cook. &nbsp;Anyway, on his way to the ship, he runs into a childhood friend, who happens to be the ship's captain. Anyway, of course he ends up working at the ship, but another thing about his past, there's a marking on his hand that signifies that he's a pilot [it's like some ID tattoo that's detected by their big robots]. &nbsp;Yes, the alien robots are back and they have to battle them in space. &nbsp;Anyway, you do the math from there. This series is basically one of those "big robot", "love triangle", "slap-stick humor" anime. &nbsp;I personally love it cuz the characters are great!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

- Macross (Remember Robotech? &nbsp;Yea, that's what it is. The end. Check out Macross Plus. &nbsp; One of the top animation studios did the production (Directed by Shoji Kawamori) for it and one of the best composers in the anime industry did the music (Yoko Kanno). &nbsp;Instant hit.)

- Vision of Escaflowne (Teenage girl named Hitomi, just minding her business. &nbsp; Then during a practice run (cuz she's on her school's track team), she gets zapped into an alternate world. &nbsp;Well to sum it up. Big ass knight looking robots, the good guy is this hardcore swordsman named Van and he has to kick his evil bro's ass as well as the dude's minions who also happen to have huge ass knight-like mecha. &nbsp; The fight scenes are SO damn sweet and the storyline keeps having plot twists that'll keep you watching for HOURS. Throughout the series, you'll wonder how the girl's gonna get home, especially with all this drama into it. &nbsp; You'll see some dope ass cell animation blended with computer animation [ALMOST FLAWLESSLY blended! Same guys who did Macross Plus did this too]. &nbsp;Again, the music is done by Yoko Kanno, just like Macross Plus.)

I can recommend more..but eh, I'll do it later. &nbsp; If any of you guys wanna watch something specific, just let me know what type of anime you like and I'll make suggestions. &nbsp;Believe me, I have friends who know 10 times more than I do. Then again, they're freaks.

I've seen bloodlust at best buy on dvd for $18 , Ghost in the shell was fuckin cool , i also am ADDICTED to initial d does anyone know where i can get the dvds thatll play on my ps2 for a reasonable price ? Tenchi Muyo is good , Cowboy bebop has some mad good music and animation i hated the ending though pissed me off *walks down steps* *says "bang"* *dies* wtf kind of ending is that? anyway anything in gunsdam is good im watchin 0083 on adult swim its pretty good oh that pilot candidate show is pretty good too. i wish there was more racing anime though. Outlaw Star is pretty good &nbsp;and then there is the all time forever lastin DBZ its kinda kiddie at times but still rocks the house down. well that about all i can think of now oh the movie "Wrath of The Ninja :The Yotoden Movie " IS FUCKIN SWEET , it was my first taste of anime with blood and guts some years ago those were the good old days &nbsp;well im audi yall , holla !!

Yez I have seen Vampire Hunter D, and I own Bloodlust (but not the original yet because when I worked at Tower, we were always out of stock). &nbsp;Bloodlust is better than the first movie, IMO, but there were times when it was trying too hard to be comical. &nbsp; Also, he really didn't use any of his vampire powers that he got from his father (the one and only Count Dracula), so that was kind of a dissappointment. &nbsp;Other than that though, it was an excellent flick! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Ghost In the Shell was pretty good, but it's not one of my favorite ones. &nbsp;I thought about mentioning it since it's so highly acclaimed, but then decided to leave it off of the list. &nbsp;Another real good one that I left off the list is Blood: The Last Vampire. &nbsp;It's entirely too short, and the ending really sucks, but you won't see better animation (well you might, but it's sooo good). &nbsp;My real beef with Blood was the length though, it seemed to be just getting started and then suddenly it ends. &nbsp;

Nismoboy, I haven't seen the end of Cowboy Bebop yet, thanks for ruining it for me though. &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Best animes in the world, no make that galaxy, no universe! &nbsp;OK, these are not in a specific order because they are all the best,

AKIRA, totally killer movie

Ghost in the Shell, really cool plot and characters

Neon Genesis Evangelion, This is the best series and one of Japans most controversial animes, totally sweet battle scenes

Initial D of course, awesome racing, good info

Blood the Last Vampire, some of the best animation I have seen in my life and I am an anime junkie, &nbsp;YOU NEED TO SEE THIS IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY

Gunsmith Cats, only three episodes 45 mins each, but cool show none the less.

These are the best animes ever and I may have forgotten some. &nbsp;find pics of these, and movies. &nbsp;just my , wait thats more than two cents.

Stuff on my D drive: &nbsp;
Angel Sancuary (pretty sick... more so because the dude wants to get in his sister's pants)
Candidate for Goddess (not a anime great tho)
Excel Saga (shameless plug: this anime rocks if you love random violence and sex... and more stupidity than a newbie with a VRH39)
Final Fantasy Unlimited (summon skill.... makes this anime better than FF9... which actually sucked now that i remember it)
Fruits Basket (girls love this.... cats and mice are kawaii)
Full Metal Panic (mecha... good mecha)
Hunter X Hunter (eh... dunno why i still have it)
Initial D (Exciting final special and the 3rd stage)
Inu Yasha (spiffy... like kenshin if he didn't have a sword and resembled a cat... oh wait, it's nothing like kenshin)
Kare Kano (chicks dig it... i think it's pretty intriguing)
Kimagure Orange Road (old stuff)
Love Hina (like tenshi without aliens.. we can relate to it because like the main character, we're all dorks)
Ranma (old classic... boy turns into girl when splashed with water... reminds me of a few board members actually)
Scryed (futuristic-ic special power type anime... the type that has "badly mangreld engrish attack!!")
Super Gals (was referred to me by a canadian girl... )
Trigun (blowing towns up without the fun of killing)
Vandread Second Stage (space ship mecha.... answering the question: why can't girls and boys live together?... badly)

Honorable mention (recently burned off):
Noir (stated above... a blode girl and a japanese (i guess) teenager kill a bunch of people to really really really really really good music [salva nos]... a bigger conspiracy than... well... the USA)
Sister Princess (this anime is of the "kawaii" variety...)

Lately though... for some reason i've been getting Dragonball Z stuff.... i don't know why.... maybe it's a good alternative to "drifting". &nbsp;Completely pointless, yet somehow entertaining?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Been there. Went through my newbie stage of being obsessed with DBZ. Then I started watching other stuff and despised DBZ's mainstream image. In the past several months, I went back to watching DBZ because well, I liked it. It was like I was going back to my roots. I mean, everyone at some point, like myself, would like a little mindless violence from time to time. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Here's some more anime that I'm currently checking out.

.hack//sign - Anime about hackers. &nbsp;Kickass music. &nbsp;I heard there's something with the story that lies deeper than just computer hacking. I've heard from various people that this is one of the MUST SEE anime series of the year. &nbsp; It's only available through fansubs off the net.

Aquarian Age - I've only seen 4 episodes of this and it's pretty interesting. &nbsp;I just only know it involves a group of teenage guys who are a rock band and then something involving some spirits or whatever around their town. Whatever I just described isn't much, but it's just something that needs to be watched.

Eh..there's more, but I'm too tired.

The original dragonball series actually had a plot... and that's how I got into it in the first place.... DBZ was just entertaining at the whole "who's gonna win?? &nbsp;let's take 5 episodes to just finish one battle as we crawl through the stages of battle as our main character waits to use his ultimate attack as all his friends die in the meantime..... then find the dragonballs and make it all better anyways" level. &nbsp;DBGT started off nice.... then went to the DBZ type story.

Mindless violence = excel saga. (A-CR-OSS!!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
