View Full Version : Doing Wheels Spacers Safely

First of, yes, I searched already.

Currently I have a pretty ghetto rigged setup, I'm actually using 2 washers on each stud to space out my wheels (I know, I know).

I am wondering how wide of a spacer will safely work on stock studs? 2 washers is barely anything, maybe a few mm at most but it is still touching my coilovers occasionally, so it isn't working :(

I've heard that 8mm is about the longest you want to go on stock studs.

I've also heard the H&R 5mm is actually not hubcentric or does not have a ring protruding and uses the existing ring.

Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

how much more space do you need. Post some information about the rims you are putting on it.

lol.. 2 washers.. haha. first of all, what type of car do you drive? what type of wheels?

It's going on a S13, they are 16x8 front and 17x9 rear meshies :)

I wish I knew the offsets or I would more than likely have the problem solved. I had them on my car and the front wheels (16x8) were touching the strut. Used 2 washers on them, and the lead balancing weight barely rubbed it. Today, I ordered some 5mm spacers, so hopefully this will solve it.

I will be going to some events with the car and do some aggressive driving, I just want to make sure a 5-6mm spacer will be safe on stock studs with some hard driving?

anything more than 10mm you need longer studs.

You can't make a blanket statement like this. You don't know how much space is taken up by the rims that he is using.

Personally, I wouldn't use a spacer that doesn't allow me to get at least 6 rotations out of the lugnuts.

personally, i wouldnt do anything over 5mm with stock studs...sure there are people here that have done more and vouch that it hasnt been a problem for X amount of years, but...you never know your own luck until you try it. i rather not...

if only the weight is touching, why not just get the weight put on the outside or use the fancy sticky ones they use on bimmers and such? its a whole lot easier/safer than moving the wheels out even farther than you have to.
