1) yes
2) yes
3) uhhh power to wheels, never got a chance to dyno before selling it but was pushing 18psi on built internals, pump gas, and s-afc w/ wideband to tune with
4) I only got beat by a low 11 sec mustang, but I also only raced a low 11 second mustang, I don't really street race and built the car end of october and sold in april so never got to run it at the track
5) see above..
I'm building another ka-t drag car right now, I'll let you know what the power output and stuff on that is but it will be fully built, standalone, t3/t4, nitrous, etc...

KA is proven. GO for it. if ur engine condition is good, boost it stock and run 250hp daily won't be much trouble unless you hehe hit the speedlimit like someone I know... 250 = low 13's ? I don't think you can dominate on the street but you will smoke ricers easy. It would be fun to drive since KA = mad torque. Now if you want to go highpower with a built internal. Then those questions are irrelevent.

questions like this remind me of an idiot trying to ask a good questions, but still deriving from an idiot. How much HP and how long was a KA running without problems are good questions. all the other shit are just idiotic, somewhat liek a kid who gets a b16 in a civic and can't wait to go running around racing everyone thinking he isn't going to be beaten and as if he won't get caught while trying to accomplish it.

Question: Are you satisfied with your KA-T?
Yes
Question: Was your KA-T worth the trouble?
No trouble, except some install issues due to not having all tools necesarry to do the intall.
Question: How Manly PSI do you boost? How much power do you put to the wheels?
Somewhere around 8-9psi.... around 230-240 to the wheels.
Question: Is your KA-T dominant in your town? (or do you get your ass spanked)
I can pretty much run anything with the same amount of mods as me...
Question: How long has your KA-T setup been working "Properly"?
Over a year with no problems... except having to replace the nuts for the mani.. put about 20k miles on it

I'm planning on doin that KA-Te build in the upcoming year or so. Building the KA-T relies on good tuning. I've heard of guys gettin close to 370hp dailydriven, and working like it was fresh from the factory. You'll probably get close to spending the same amount of money for the entire KAT build as you would an SR, you just won't have to wait as long to get KA parts. And now that everyone and their moms are gettin SRs, you'll KINDA standout in a crowd. Go with your guy feeling. If you are scared your KAT will pop on you, spend the cashon the SR. Just don't cry when you have to source out other SR internals if it busts.

Im trying to plan ahead and get a new engine along with all the parts ill need to go ka-t. Its gonna be alot of trouble, but you guys seem to think its worth all the trouble so...ey, im goona go for it. But for now im gonna go with 370's(own),Safc2(own),plx-m300(still looking). Hopefully with a good tune i should be able to crank out ~250 w/ a t04b or 50trim t3/t4e.
Keep posting though...i wanna read more about how you guys like your ka-ts!!!

Anyone with an opinion, of the best turbo kit or self kit to go with for about 250 to 300hp. I'm picking up a spare ka someone is giving and planning on rebuilding it and boosting it.
Just looking for ideas. Still new to this.

Even when you find that SR part, it'll cost you a pretty penny. Check out other KA-T sites for their feedback on their cars, like KA-T.org, or phatkat.com (?). They all seem pretty happy with their setup, and its reliability.
And if your tuning skills suck, beef up on it before making that KA-T. Reliability all relies on tuning. And having that money for tuning.

IMO either the SR or KAT will give you good results if you buy quality parts.... do things correctly(install, tunning), and know how and where to shop... either one can be better than the other depending on previously mention... this topic has been discussed to the death.......

Question: Are you satisfied with your KA-T?
Yes...have been for more than 2 years.
...
Question: Was your KA-T worth the trouble?
What trouble? Bolt it on, work out the bugs, make good power. Easy.
...
Question: How Manly PSI do you boost? How much power do you put to the wheels?
12psi, 298rwhp.
Setup/dyno charts here: www.KA24DEvelopment.com
...
Question: Is your KA-T dominant in your town? (or do you get your ass spanked)
That's a pretty broad question...
On the street...it does pretty damn well.
At the track...low-13s at ~110mph (easy launch).
SCCA autocross...I run in SM, and am 2nd for the year (PAX: 34th out of 393 total drivers)...but I run street tires, and SM PAX is NOT friendly.
On the road course...has more than enough power.
...
Question: How long has your KA-T setup been working "Properly"?
+2 years.
...
The SR is a great motor, but the KA has a ton of potential as well...

Question: Are you satisfied with your KA-T?
Yes.
Question: Was your KA-T worth the trouble?
Bought a kit and installed it. Tuned on dyno. No trouble at all.
Question: How Manly PSI do you boost? How much power do you put to the wheels?
8psi and 239-243whp on a dynojet, repeatable over the span of 1 year on 93 octane gas. I dynoed it four times.
Question: Is your KA-T dominant in your town? (or do you get your ass spanked)
Sorry I don't street race. However, at the track it runs 13.8-14.0 with a stock automatic tranny. Similar setups runs mid to low 13s with manual depending on driver and traction.
Question: How long has your KA-T setup been working "Properly"?
1 year and a half. 150+ runs down the 1/4mile, daily driven the first 8 month.
No breakdowns, just change oil every 3-4K and flush tranny after one year.
Motor has 150K+ all stock internals.

Sorry if I brought this thread back.. but I'm gathering up parts right now to have a KA-T up and running.
This is what I have so far..
Unknown manifold
GReddy wastegate
SAFC
HKS SSQBOV
Z32 MAF
I'm looking into getting some injectors.. right now 370cc.. but I'm wondering about those that have stock internals, and no ecu tuning, but using an SAFCII, what was the max injector size you guys used? I know technically, the SAFCII is not made to handle - / + 50%, in which I believe stock injectors are 270cc? I'd like to know if it is possible to run more, but with only an SAFCII.

270cc * .50 = 135
135 + 270 = 405cc.
This is under ideal conditions tho.
The only size above 370cc injects would be 480cc but those are just a tad of 75% larger than 270cc. I believe one person on KA-t org is running around the 500cc or something injectors with just an AFC but it'll be hard to do. If you want to run more injectors and control it well, you're going to need to run an emanage or get a enthalpy or JWT ecu tune.
orion::S14
06-27-2005, 08:07 AM
270cc * .50 = 135
135 + 270 = 405cc.
This is under ideal conditions tho...
S-AFC does not calculate that way...it takes away fuel form whatever the new injector size is, sop the calculations are based off the NEW injector size, not what the original was.
You can do a MAXIMUM of -50%...
So if stock is 270cc...and you want to run 550's...550cc minus (50%) is 275cc...almost like stock.
...
Now, I WOULD NOT reccommend running more than 370s on a stock ECU...timing curve is too aggressive.
If you want to turbo your KA using an AFC, the HP limit should be considered ~250rwhp. If you want more, you NEED a retuned ECU...otherwise you'll have too much timing advance under load, and break ring lands from detonation.

thats good to know, thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't too sure but now I know im wrong.
Or you can run a BTM and do timing adjusting at the crank to compensate for timing.

Due to some serious legal issues, I WIll be posponing my KA-T plans (maybe even scrapping it altoghther). I have to pay about 700+ for a lawyer another 100+ for a ticket. Another 200+ for my orthadontist and then court cost. And since i been suspended from my job for the past 3 weeks, ive been sitting on my hands at the house(like a dumbass slacker). But im back to work and making money. But if i loose my court case, im gonna loose my job & tution rembursment as well. After this is all over, im gonna start saving up b/c i wasn't doing that in the past and now its kicking my ass. Im currently in the process of selling most of my turbo stuff, but there are certain things i just can't seem to let go. Im also even thinking about selling my car... maybe a KA-T wasn't ment for me?

Question: Are you satisfied with your KA-T?
Don't have one wouldn't know...
Question: Was your KA-T worth the trouble?
Rear above... probably less than my G/F right now.
Question: How Manly PSI do you boost? How much power do you put to the wheels?
Read answer to question 1, not enough to break traction (auto KA)

1. for the most part. left out a couple things that kinda keep me from enjoying the full power of the setup (ex: clutch), but so far so good.
2. not sure if it's worth the trouble now. had i been more prepared for the two month downtime i had, then it might not have been so bad. plus, all the little things that've been going wrong like my a/c not working now and the ridiculous burning of the oil...
3. just dynoed my setup. only running .3 bar (about 4-ish psi) and it's putting down 195hp, 195ft/lb tq. like i said, clutch won't take anymore power before it starts slipping.
4. don't really street race so i dunno.
5. it's been running for 3 months now. rebuild coming soon cuz the engine was pretty tired when i slapped the turbo on.
