I was told by a mechanic that nissans have pretty bad wiring in general (at least the old ones). My cluster lights recently went out, however they go on when I brake? everything gets brighter when i brake (like my headunit, dash, ect.) recently my rear running lights went out, they only come on when i brake. Basically all my lighting is shitty and it's getting annoying, i've searched the threads but havnt found just a general electrical wiring problem solution. What should I target first ? new ground wiring, battery? fuses? wiring itself? I need some help on what to target first, any info is greatly appreciated.

Bulbs...

sounds weird, I know, but make sure that all your bulbs are not blown and make sure you have the right bulbs in the right place.

It appears you have a problem with the brake light circuit, due to everything coming on or going brighter when the brake lights come on. I would check a wiring diagram and start testing circuits for shorts....

In 14 years the only electrical problems I've seen in any Nissan is always owner induced. Either high wattage bulbs, improper connection of a new stereo or alarm, or additional items overloaded to a circuit. Verify that you and those before you haven't screwed anything up first before blaming the car.

Check your light bulbs.
I saw a similar wierd electrical problem in another car and it was because the bulbs used looked the same, but the terminals were switched around. This was on the parking light/turn signal/brake lights.

So, when the brake light was supposed to go on, it sent power to the headlight circuit I think.

Its hard to tell if they are wrong though, because there are bulbs that fit identically but have different connections.

My car wont start if i close the door and try to start the car at the same time...it wont even turn over unless i pull the key out and open the door and let the seatbelt slide forward....its weird and i cant figure it out
