How do I remove the trunk lock on the s14? It looks like I need a special tool but the factory service manual doesn't say much about it. Can anybody help me out? thanks.

Looking at the back side of the lock (ie: in the trunk) you will see the lock cylinder and at the base against the trunk lid is a piece of metal, it is just a clip, there is a lip on it, you can use a screwdriver to pry it away from the cylinder, releasing it, or grab that clip with a pair of pliers and pull it out. Just a little tug and it's free.

Wrong.
The 14 trunk lid cylinder is secured with a pair of 10mm bolts. Take the center tail panel off and unbolt it.
