Well, I'll try to keep this fairly short. You probably won't be seeing me on as much anymore until I figure out what's wrong with my damned internet!!!!!! Right now I feel like throwing my computer out the ******* window!!!!!!!!!!!!
So yeah, right now I'm on the computer downstairs, but it's not mine, and I hate this computer, so I will be using it as little as possible. I don't know what went wrong, why, or how, but hopefully I can fix it soon. What's really weird is that I am still connected to the LAN, but cannot connect to the internet (it's all connected through the same router, so I find it odd). Anyways...that's my rant/explanation for why you probably won't see me that much in the coming days...
Reset the router. Release/Renew IP address on broken computer. Get new drivers for NIC in broken computer. Update frimware on router. Swear a bit. At this point you want to make sure its actually pluged in, you NEVER want to check that first. Does the router have a link light for the port the broken computer is pluged into? Does the computer NIC have a link light? Can you ping the router? Can you ping the other computer on the network? Lastly, slick your computer...its fun an you know you want to anyway

If you can get LAN resources and no net resources, I'd mebbe suspect DNS or a flarked up router configuration.

Or just say "Screw it!", go to the closest computer store, get a 56.6K modem (are they free yet?) and piss off people in yer houshold (no phone calls for you! <- gotta be pronounced with the nazi accent of the chef in the "Sienfield" show)... or you can spend extra $20 and buy an extra phone line...
...and suffer the pains of THE dialup...
EDIT: That's assuming u have a dsl/cable shit. If you got dial up alrdy that's on the other computer, that u cant connect to... well, steal the modem, and make them connect through you now... make it their problem hehe
EDIT2: them <- refers to the people in yer house to whom the other comp belongs

Believe it or not, I've tried all of that stuff, with the acception of getting the 56Ker...I can't go back to dialup. I've even uninstalled the hardware, reinstalled it, and then checked everything all over again. Yes, my ethernet card, and my router, are both getting ping. According to my computer, the internet is also working just fine, but according to me, it's not. I think I'm just going to reformat the HD and that should do the trick.

After the reformat, and install of windows again, I'm back online. Oh yeah, I also lost all of my bookmarks, that's most upsetting of all, it will take a long time to find all of those again (I was in too much of a I hate this damned machine rage to back anything up).
hahaha, thats awful. What did you do to your computer to break it soo bad that you had to slick it to make it work? You must be running win9x/me right?

Welllll...my friend bought Jedi Knight II last night and was so eager that when he got to my house we installed it on my computer to play it. Everything played great, but then it crashed the system for some reason. Anyways, once this happened, I mysteriously lost my internet connection, and that's how it all happened. I don't know what went wrong, it's really odd. I even uninstalled the game, but that didn't work either.
I'm running Windows XP, I've never really had any problems with it until then.

Thats sucks. At least your back on the internet.
I did something similar once. I had about 5.5 gigs of MP3's that I deleted by formatting both hard drives during windows installations. Took me 2 years to get that list the way I wanted it. ugg. I always unplug my 2nd hard drive now when I reformat.
