BOV location

Where is the best place to put the BOV, on the sr20det (s13)? Intake or exhuast side, and then the distande away from the throttle body, and turbo, respectivly.Thanks

most are on the hotpipe not sure if it is optimal but it is definately the most comon location

I'd say look at other set up's and check where they have it. I say about a foot n change from the t.b.

The majority of the pre fabbed intercooler kits do have it on the hot side, but it seems to me this might create more lag? Mabye I am wrong, but the change in pressure that far away from the throttle body has to be less responsive????

If I was making my own piping I would place the bov extremly close to the throttle body for response

After some research it seems that about 10-12 inches away seems to be a nice way to go.

there is no 'correct one' people prefer it on either side

ive seen some people weld the flange and mounting their bov on the intercooler piping, im planning on doin this wit a hks ssqv onto a blitz intercooler pipe, can any1 give me any information about this? pros and cons of it? thanx in advance

^^^^ WTF? Where else does it go? Cold side is better for responce. If your keeping the sidmount, stick to the hot side. They made it hotside for easy aftermarket bov installment on factory cars. If you are doing a custom set up, place the bov on the cold side. If you get a big IC kit, place the bov on the cold side.

it is better to have it closer to the turbo....thats the whole reason you have it so it doesnt put pressure against the turbo...so if its closer to the turbo itll vent the air by the turbo faster...

No. If you have it at the cold side, it will not have enough pressure to spin the the turbo in the wrong direction (back surge) but keep some pressure in the IC as well as have the flow of air staying in the right direction. If you put the bov at the hot side, you lose all pressure in the IC aswell as have all flow of air go backwards thowards the BOV.

Hot side= More Lag
Cold side= Less lag

Neither damage the turbo.

wat i mean is instead of putting it on the pipe thats in the engine bay that connects to the turbo, i was plannin on welding it on the pipe infront of the car, the one that connects to the intercooler, where people can see the bov by standing infront of your car, cuz i have a 97 sr 240 and i have a full vertex body kit on it, so the bov would fit nicely on the pipe rite under where the turn signal suppose to be, any thoughts on this? i no it sounds kinda confusing but hopefully some1 will understand this =), reason is because ive seen some people do this and i wonder wat it does different if its out in the open, instead of under the hood, thanx in advance

Hmmm I've had mine on both sides, I haven't noticed the diff but I wasn't paying attention. On my current setup the stock recirc valve is on the cold side, right at the throttle body almost, well thats how the RB is stock. When I change to the fmic setup, its gonna be around the battery tray area , right after the cold pipe comes up from below the engine bay.

There is what I did, it was simple and looks pretty clean to me, took all of 2 hours with 2 manderal J bends, and $20 to have it powdercoated.

I too have considered welding my bov to the front pipe, not so much to be seen as to be heard. {And as we all know venting to atmosphere is for the ricer in all of us :doh: } I just have concerns about rocks and other small projectiles eventually wearing it down. thoughts? Just for sound purposes not performance on my end.

From what I've seen, SR's 'usually' have the BOV on the hot side, and KA's 'usually' have the BOV on the cold side. I don't know, it's just what I've seen 'more often'.
