Buddy has this turbo for sale and its about $340 but he was going to use this on a KA-T so I am worried about turbo lag. I just want to get 300 WHP and don't want to spool at 3500-4000 RPM's.
What do you think about the mentioned turbo below?
Garret/Nisssan t3/t4 50 trim(.42 ar), witha ).48ar t3 turbine)
I am running the same specs on a KA and it spools a full 12psi by 3000. I would think it would spool pretty close to the same on the SR and will certainly put you on the 300 mark considering mine will carry 20psi pretty easy. If anything you might get a little lag on it but I would think it would be much personally. I am completely happy with mine. Hard to say though.

How does that price sound to you? Is that the average?

Maybe a little bit high for a used t3/t4. Whats great about those things is that you can rebuild them for cheap when the time comes!

It's brand new in the box - not used or rebuilt.

If its new thats good, probably what he paid for it. I was assuming it was used

alot of times people have a notion of turbo lag that turbo's act like an on/off switch.... a turbo like the hybrid you mentioned should be fine....remember that as you accelerate you are constantly building boost you don't hit suddenly hit 15psi at a set rpm

Port and polish your head, use bigger cams and that bad boy will spool....

I am stuck between this turbo and between the turbo I mentioned above or a GT2871R .63 which is like almost 3 times the price of T3/T4. If I go with the T3/T4, I will need to get:
- manifold
- wastegate
- oil lines & fittings
But at least it will be a top mount, may equal out in price to the GT2871R .63 mounted to the factory manifold & if something goes wrong, T3/T4's are rebuildable where as ball bearing turbos are just SOL.
Which would you choose?
T3/T4 shown above orGT2871R .63 ?

imho, at that turbine a/r (basically t3 housings have same exit port size for specific a/r's) turbo lag will not be a problem. remember a/r ratio is just that, leverage. its area/radius ratio. ull spool mighty quick with a tiny .48 at the expense of running closer or being on, the crappy part of the potential curve of the turbo.
as far as an on off switch, i run a t3/t4 with .63 turbine a/r, its pretty much crap power below 4000, then full boost at 5000, but like i tell everyone who complains about my car's so called turbo lag, if u wanna go faster, downshift, "thats what god gave us shifters for"!!!!! secondly, u can always get a fully scalable boost controller, that way boost ramps rather than... well a... boosts
ive driven stock sr20's in s13's with a t3/t4 in both .63 and .5something turbine a/r, the .5something spools quicker and is much more manageable on the mountain, however, there is a noticable difference in power above 6000 rpm between the 2.
Port and polish your head, use bigger cams and that bad boy will spool....
i thought porting helped the high end. just hearsay tho. someone verify
