Hi, I just completed my sr swap with a supposely 97 blacktop sr motor. I have a j4 ecu and my ecu connector wiring is different than what the wiring is on my harness. I am wondering if the j4 ecu is interchangable with the sr20det redtop ecu. Also, as of right now, when I start the car it only runs on one cylinder(cylinder 1). I tested the sparks on all cylinders and only got a spark from cylinder 1. What would cause me to only have 1 spark and none on the others? I read and search and couldn't find anything about it. I tested several things like the CAS, Ignitor, coil packs, etc. Also, I am having a no tach signal. The motor is install on a 92 with digital cluster. The wire for the tach is a yellow/red wire that is attached to another yellow red that goes out to the engine bay and connects to a different spot on the ecu connect. I am not sure if the j4 ecu and harness is suppose to be together. I had the car run on all 4 cylinders until I lost all power. Can anyone give me some ideas on what this could be. I hope I am detailed enough. thanks

check wires going in and out of your ignitor it may be the wires not the chip that are the problem also are all of your grounds hooked up?

Can you give me some info on how I would go about checking the wires? I have all the grounds hooked up i believe. One to the passenger side strut tower, two small wires on the intake manifold near the radiator line on the firewall, the big one attached to the intake manifold attached to the battery tray going to the battery, the braided wire from the back of the engine to the firewall, and one off the brake cylinder attached to the driver side strut tower. Thanks for the reply. Also does anyone know if the J4 ecu is interchangeable to other ecus? It is just my friends engine harness is a little different than my engine harness where his tach wire goes straight from the M53 connector to the ecu and I have my wire at a different spot connected on the ecu.

found exactly what was wrong with my swap. They guy i got it from gave me the wrong ecu or the wrong harness. I have the 62/e5 harness which won't work with the j4 ecu. I had to have a special harness for j4 cause of the 10 or so pins that were different. Like my tach signal was going out to my coil pack 2 wire and my coil pack 2 wire was going to my tach. It explains why i was only firing on 1 cylinder because the ecu wasn't firing the 2,3,4 coilpacks which was in a different spot on the connector. I tested out my friends 62 ecu and it ran fine. Fires on all 4 cylinders and no turbo lag. I just have to set the timing right and probably check my timing guides just in case. Went back to the guy I got it from and was very nice about getting me the right ecu. Hopefully I will get it in soon. Can't wait to drive my car some more. Thanks for the help. Hopefully this will solve someone's problem if they run into it.
