Alright, I've gotten in a couple of spirited drives recently and two times have missed a shift. Both times, I hit the gas and quickly let off, but not before the tach needle dipped in to red. It hit probably about 6900rpm but I didn't feel fuel cut off or anything like that.
How bad is this for the engine? Am I going to blow the motor. I hate when I misshift, I really need to get a short shifter. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

as long as you got good oil in there (mobil 1) brief stints up towards 7k shouldn't be a problem. i know i passed 6500 once not because of a misshift, but just because i wasn't paying enough attention. iirc, some of the S13 ka24de's did have a redline at 7k. i really wouldn't worry too much about it until you start seeing smoke coming out the tailpipe, or funny noises coming out from under the hood.

yeah, you should be fine. Just maintain your oil really well. I drive the piss outa my car, but I always change my oil at 2k-2.5k miles. She loves me for it. I think fuel cut-off is at like 7200 rpm.
--of course the following examples are different breeds of cars--
Celica GTS - To get it to stay in VVT you have to shift 3-400 rpm in redline.
RSX type-S - About the same.

Cool, thanks you guys. I'm very religious about changing my oil and maintaining other parts of my car. This makes me feel better <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

You'll be fine. I've bounced off the rev limiter at 7100-ish quite a few times at autox's and such. As long as you don't hold it there, you should be fine.
