Hello,
I just picked up a 95 240SX SE as a project car, and I'm having trouble getting the car started. It has the factory KA24DE and a 5-spd, looks as close to stock as any car I can think of. I will try to explain in as much detail as I can.
First, the car had a super-cheap alarm/remote start install that I removed. Literally wires wrapped together and taped . Secondly, I got no keys with the car, so I have removed the tumbler from the cylinder, and have jumped the two-pin connector together from the cylinder to make the car think they key is there, while turning the car over with a flat screwdriver.
Third, even after removing all alarm/remote start stuff, I can still turn the car over with the clutch not pushed in.
Now, for what I've done so far:
-Have fuel, don't have spark
-Checked ECM, no trouble codes in diagnostic mode
-Checked compression, low all around (85-95-115-115), obviously checked cold (but wide variance)
-Seem to have power to distributor, but now that I have a proper wiring diagram, I will check exactly tomorrow
-Plugs and wires are ok, cleaned deposits off of cap/rotor
-All fuses were checked and are fine, both under dash and under hood
The car will crank and turn over pretty slowly, but won't start. I'm pretty sure the starter is getting close to fried, from other people trying to start the car constantly when it wouldn't start (it was a salvage car).
Since I've had a car before with cheap alarm install problems, my first thoughts were that after ripping it out, it would solve the no start issues but didn't. I cut all the wires and wrapped the bare wires that were spliced into, I think I will double check tomorrow to ensure there are no problems there. It doesn't make sense for it to crank and have fuel, but no spark though.
After doing some searching from others, it seems most likely problems left, in order are: coil, distributor, ECM? I'm having trouble coming up with any other ideas, and I also don't have the resources to throw money at new parts trying to replace everything in getting it to run.
Since I'm new to Nissan's, and don't have any manuals to go off of, could anybody point me towards the proper wiring for ignition components, and the correct procedure to check that everything works properly?
Thanks,
-Dustin
