how much do shops charge to change the tranny fluid for a 90 240? i have never done it and have no time to figure it out at the moment (even though it might be easy). i cant put my car in 1st sometimes and it feels like its gonna break, so i think changing the fluid would somewhat help. i have too much going on right now and i think the easiest would be to just take it to a shop. how much do they charge to do this? and get redline or royal purple? thanks

do you change you're own engine oil? Cause it takes less time than that.

At least $50 because they'll want to use a pump. Anytime someone breaks out a tool the price goes up.

You can do it for less than $10 in less than 20 minutes in your driveway. And then you can use the old gear oil as conditioner.

Shit, someone in socal drive to his house and charge him 30 bucks and do it for him. If anything I would just go to some quick lube place(anywhere with a pit) with Royal Purple or Redline and have them put it in there. They still might charge you the price of putting their stuff in there but thats what its going to be. After you pay way to much money to get it done, and you do it yourself someday, you will be pissed though.

Typically, if you've never done it.

15 - oil pan/fluid collector from kragen or checkers/shuckers.
15 x 3 if you want to run redline or.... 9 x 3 if you want to run valvoline etc.
XX- Cost of a 1/2 inch drive socket
xx- cost of needle nose pliers

put the pan under the tranny hole, open the drain plug with a 1/2 inch socket driver.

take off your center console, shifter boot, put the needle nose pliers in the 2 "c" ring holes, compress then pull up. Shifter comes loose, pull it out, fill with 2.5 quarts of tranny fluid.

Do everything in Reverse.

On my s14, they charged me $35 to drain, flush, and refill. It was one of those quick lube places, that has a pitt in the ground and had oil pumping in the lines. I also had them treat my diff with friction modifier that I supplied. If you've neglected your diff, and really don't wanna get messy, $35 isn't a bad deal IMO.

$15 for a bottle of Redline? I can't find it for more than $10 a bottle around here.

2.5 quarts? mine takes nearly 4...

its an easy job, but defentily the possiblity of getting sticky.

Where are you adding fluid? Cause it shouldn't take more than 3. If you fill from the shifter you can overfill it.

i work at a garage, i filled it through the fill hole. it took just over 3 i believe, defenitly not 2.5

plus taking a b&m off just to fill the tranny is kinda a bitch.

^^^^ and not nearly as easy and "good". If you do it from the shifter you should rethink your methods
