Topic basically says it all. I bought this 91 SE fastback about a month ago. Recently I had the tranny oil changed (GL5) and now it seems that my syncros are starting to go, it grinds upshifting into 2nd and there's a whining/whirring noise when coasting at low speeds in 1st and 2nd.
All I really want to do is tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience here and see what kind of $$ I'm looking at for a rebuild vs. replacement. I'm thinking rebuild since then I know all the internals are new.
Any other ideas are welcome too
Thanks,
Jeff

Can get you a low mileage 5 speed tranny for about $350 bucks... Where are you located? Tranny will have about 60k on it. I am in Cali bay area.

If only you were on the East Coast. I'm in Georgia. It would probably cost me dearly to have it shipped here.

FWIW, my car is also making noises - sounds like rocks rolling around in there! I check rebuild costs and locally its on the order of $1,000-$1,500 parts+labor, 1yr warranty. I took another route and bought an entire 1995 drivetrain w/40k miles for the same amount of money. Trannys alone are pretty common to find lately.

Thanks weitau for that link. Wonder if they keep records of mileage.

I've been looking at that option also jmancini. For those prices you could almost buy an SR with everything
