finally finished the tranny swap this weekend. test drove the car for about 20 min, everything was just fine. went out to eat, got back in the car about an hour later, threw it in first and as soon as i was easing out the clutch i hear GRRRRRRIIIIINDDDDD....... so i push the clutch back in, and its still grinding but a little less. so i throw it out of gear and it goes away. got the car home, re-bled the clutch lines. car was fine for about a day and a half, then started doing it again. i noticed the car was leaking brake fluid, from the slave and the clutch line connector under the car. just wondering if its just losing pressure in the system to push the clutch arm all the way and that causign the grinding? i'm planning on getting rid of the stock clutch damper since i heard it traps air. any suggestions to what the problem might be, besides the lines not holding pressure? also, any tips on tightening the clutch line fittings so they dont leak?
thanks in advance!

use teflon tape on the lines problem is coming from the leak i would assume

If fluid can leak out, air can leak in. Fix the leak and bleed it thoroughly.

thanks for the replies, i'm hoping that that is the problem and nothing more serious. i'm planning on bypassing the damper and going straight to the slave cyl by adding another clutch line, instead of bending the hard line.
hey head, about your avatar, i take that exit at least once a week lol. where u from?

*BUMP*
got rid of the clutch damper last night, retightened all the lines from master to slave, same problem. sitting in neutral, push the clutch in and shift into first, start letting out the clutch hear a hard grinding noise. push the clutch back in, grinding noise is still present only quieter. shift back into neutral, grinding is still there untill i let the clutch out. try again, goes in just fine. happens about once or twice per every 5 attempts. someone please help!!!! :wtc:

really make sure you bleed the line thoroughly.. Did you add enough tranny fluid? Did you install a new throughout bearing when you did the swap?
so it's grinding with the tranny in neutral ? check pilot bearing/throw out bearing too while you're in there and the clutch fork.

yea, the throwout bearing and pilot bushing are brand new. for some reason it happens only first and reverse. sometimes, a little hint of a grind in 2nd.. :-/

yup.. keeps grinding in neutral till i let the clutch out. feels like the gear sticks and didnt disengage properly.

as good as the guy who sold it to me said it was. the thing is, it does not grind every single time. i'm assuming with a bad syncro it would (?). well, i'm replacing slave and master cylinders tonight. we'll see what happens.....

not necessarily... the syncro could be just worn and slip on occasion
try some transmission conditioner if replacing the cylinders doesn't help

Fill the trans with GM synchromesh or redline shockproof both help with noisey synchros and smooth out shifts on worn transmissions
