My s13 came automatic. For now, as i swap the engine i'd like to keep it as that, and maybe down the line swap the tranny n' all for a nice 5spd. ( I drove manual for 3 years and theres just far to much traffic to work to worry about the gears )

I've never driven anything with an sr20 or anything else to check the speeds, just running off opinions and popularity. So my question is, will a I notice a signifigance increase from my stock to the sr20 if its still kept an automatic? I'd like to do slight mods to the engine once i get it, but I dont believe anything like an intercooler system is high on the list, yknow? Just wondering, as I got this guy breathing down my neck about putting a sm blk chevy in it. Lmk, thx.

agreed

traffic is a terrible excuse to cover up the fact that you suck at 5 speeds

you guys are sucky mean. let him get an sr. At least he admits to not being a racer boy.

An sr will have significant increases in speed. I'd compare the acceleration for an automatic sr to a 96 mustang automatic. Not super fast, but not slow. peppy for sure

A lot of people want an automatic because they are more consistent than manuals for drag racing. Not so bad to want one. A lot of supra turbos came with autos too. Yeah we all make fun but if you look at certain reasons its not so bad

I bet you wouldn't be making fun of him if he beat you in a race and you both had the same mods;)

untill you get into the low 11's or so, a manual will walk all over an automatic.

Easier to upgrade at least in sr terms. Nobody makes a better torque convertor or anything for the sr auto that I know of so manny would defiantely be better.

Traffic?!?! YOU LIVE IN TEXAS. I commute to Los Angeles one day, and to Long Beach the other, and I drive a 5sp. We have statistically the worst traffic in the United States. Yes, worse than New York. So who cares deal with it. Or get an auto SR.

DONT FUCKING BUY ANYTHING FROM RICKEY, HE SELLS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, sorry about the caps, I bought my sr from him and its garbage, 2nd gear is kinda fucked and had I not spent countless hours fixing things etc, the engine probably would have toasted itself, he is a fucking prick.

The auto trans in the S13 is kinda junky; I'd be afraid to throw more than 250hp at it.

Autos and turbos can be very good things:

1) Depress brake with left foot.
2) Put transmission into Drive (D).
3) Depress accelerator with right foot making sure that left foot is firmly planted on brake pedal.
4) Wait for shrieking sound from back tires.
5) Remove foot from brake.

I predict that this worthless thread will not last very long... An auto SR is a waste of time, and traffic as an excuse is a shitty cop out, you'd spend more time money and effort finding an auto equipped one than just going ahead and swapping the 5-speed

If anyone needs a high-stall or fully furnace braized unit to handle up to 500whp let me know, i currently supply about 15 car clubs with hard to find upgraded converters pretty cheaply ($320 shipped up to 2400rpm stall and furnace braized).

And BTW in the land of many stock SR20 silvia's the Auto S14 pulls a .01 second faster 0-60mph than the stick and in the wet I get walked on by the S14 auto's due to zero traction from stock width tires.

if your gonna be to lazy to drive 5spd, your probably gonna be to lazy to swap in a sr20det.

I appreciate those that took the time to actually respond to my question.

For those claiming Im using traffic as a cop out? I'm sorry, but I believe if you had read a bit mroe careful, Ive driven manual, I know how to drive manual, I chose not to drive manual. I'M NOT WANTING TO TURN MY 240 INTO A TUNER CAR. I simply would like to make it nice. I'm looking for a nice engine to swap with, the sr seemed my best choice. I'm not looking to compete with it. If I was, I'd swap in japo crapo for some american muscle and tear the hides off those with the Superiority complexes.

If I even bother to post in the future I'll post in my sig that IM NOT LOOKING TO TURN IT INTO A RICE BURNER. I'm not about to blow thousands of dollars on a car and bother competeing with a fuckin' 240sx. I love my car, but I know what its capable of. I know a little about what its capable with after putting in so much money, and I'd be alot better off getting something else to start with. And isnt the whole concept of a 240 that they make great drifters? Why the hell would I turn my day-to-day driver into a drifter?

Enjoy picking up groceries in your tuner cars, boys. I hope all the extra mileage you put on your engine running your daily errands pays off...somehow.
