well i tried searching for the short somewhere and couldnt find it for the life of me... and im getting a little tired of looking..
so i was wondering if there is a way to hardwire my taillights to a seperate switch to where it only controls the brighter filimen of the stop lights, but have my tail lights still go on for nightly driving...
so basically i want to keep the wires to my tail lamps intact, then somehow rewire the wire for the brights of the tail lamps to light up using a different break switch... anyone here know the wire colors for the brights on the tail lamps? (if there is one) or anyone here done it?

I am a little confused, you are trying to eliminate the brake light portion of your tail lights and wire them into a seperate switch?

pretty much... you know how when you step on your breaks, they get brighter? well i want to rewire the "brighter" part to a break switch besically running off its own circuit.,

It is already set up that way, the switch is mounted on the top of your brake pedal. That is how they work.

^^ i understand that.. but the 2 wires that go into the switch also go into the harness... i wanted to cut the two wires from the switch, and run a whole new set of wires to my taillights... so i was wondering if anyone knew the color of the wires for the stoplamps(the brighter light.)
Edit: also my brake light on my gauge cluster constantly stays on...and when i hit the brakes when theres a fuse in the stop lamp fuse holder, my idles goes down as if hella voltage was being used. it feels like my cars gonna die. and i read somewhere that the brake booster MAY have something to do with this.. and my brake pedal does feel a little spongy...anyone have anything to re-assure me on this?

Where in SJ are located? I'm in the Silver Creek area and can help you out. I'm wondering why do you want to do this for? Rear foglights? Do you want to have it so it doesn't light up the brighter filament when you brake at all? Or do you still want that part to work as well? Btw, if you keep that brighter filament on long enough, it does get hella hot and since the tailights are inthe rear, the air will not cool it down much. In the front, I have done this before to the corner lamp bulbs but the oncoming air cools it down. :w00t:

Disconnect the current setup and splice into the wires running to the brighter filament. Disconnect the current brake light switch that is mounted above your brake pedal, then mount another "push button" switch to function in the same way. As long as you wire in a power source to the switch, then run the wires back to the bright filament you shouldn't have any problems. You are simply disconnecting the current set up, and wiring an independent setup that is not intergral with the chasis harness.
As for the color of the wires, there should be two sets running into your brake light bulb housing, one for the dim filament and one for the bright filament. Two figure out which set of wires is which use a voltmeter and have someone step on the brakes when your lights are turned OFF. only your brake lights should be getting juice, thus those wires will be 'hot' during that time.

drew: im doing this because my stop lamps dont work... ive searched through all the wires.. and im tired of it so im just going to hardwire them...
s14shrkeye: thanks.. i figured it all out today at work...which colored wires and everything...
so this is what im going to do... run a power wire with an inline fuse to the "new stop lamp swith" then from that run a wire to splice into the high filimin wires in the back... sound good?

yes, it should click when you press the button. Have you checked the continuity of the switch to make sure it still works>?
You know, I just saw a olive green 240 lowered yesterday making a left onto Silver Creek from Capitol. Was that you? :wiggle: I have been driving my civic till I recieve my maf tomorrow. My s13 is a white 4x4 :ugh:
here's a pic of my civic.

no this one was a stock 92se lowered and olive green too. Looked pretty clean stock... :2f2f:
I finally got another maf in my s13. If you see a white 92 s13 se with some dents not too noticeable, tinted windows then it's me. There are some that look like mine but one has s14 wheels lowered and the other one is just lowered. I believe that we all have sleepy eyes. :hyper:
