Ok, so I'm moving to california in about..well4-6 months.  It was going to be like 4 weeks, but plans have changed.

I want to get a 5spd swapped in as my next mod.

There is a place in Kansas City called Boost Dynamics but I think they quoted me at about $1000.  I was wondering if maybe there is a place in Dallas that anyone knows of that could for it for me cheaper.  I really don't want to spend $1000 on a swap, I was thinking somewhere more like around the area of $800.

Is there anything I can do to make my swap cheaper?

Also, for those of you in SoCal who know places who do swaps....if it is cheaper out there I would wait until I moved out there.  I'm most likely going to be living in the San Fernando Valley area.  So if any of you guys out there in socal can hook me up, let me know.

well if they are quoting you at $1000. with parts and labor thats a good deal. The main problem is unless you do it yourself you would have a hard time doing the swap on a 98 for less than $800 in parts.  98 parts are expensive because its late model . good 5 speeds with low miles which is what you would want to put in a 98 are not cheap. plus you will need the 5 speed ecu because 98's are OBDII. I have a person here who can do the install itself for $350 but then you are still looking at parts and they would cost you $800 from me. Its hard to get 98 ecu's and such . I would say if boost dynamics can do it for for $1000 complete go for it. Remember thats not a lot when your talking about a $12,000-14,000 dollar car depending on mileage.
hope this helps

Thanks a lot, maybe I can talk them down to $900 since I'd be driving from out of state to have it done.  Who knows.  Or...if I can find someone in my area that needs an auto tranny, I could sell it to them for like $200 or whatever and save money in that area.

So you think for the $1000 the are quoting me I would get a tranny that has as many miles on it as are on my car, or less?  I have almost 62k on my car right now.
