i know the 840's had a V8,
they are such beautiful cars, absolutely wonderful BMW's, i would love to own one except tehy are sooooooooo rare,
i would kill a friend to own an 850csi, i actuallt have seen 1 close up many years ago..
they still fetch about $25,000 around toronto, and they were discontinued in like 92 or something like that...
i would be interested in seeing some pics of these if you can find them...
i cant beleive they ruined one with those art series cars.

i'm 90% sure the 840s had a V8... i don't think BMW has even had a V10 ... about the 850s, we used to have one at the infiniti dealer i worked at, it was a white 90 with blue leather and it was NICE. i don't think it was ever actually out on the lot though becuase it was always in our shop or a local BMW getting repaired, but it had 125k miles so go fig... the body and interior were still in mint condition and it sounded great. the askin price for it was $14,900, there was one guy who even flew out from cali to ohio to come look at it for his private collection. i never actually go to drive it however because of it always gettin fixed but i got a close look at it every day at work, and yes i drooled, the thing was a tight squeeze in the service door because it was so wide...
right up the street from my house for the past week there is this later model red 850csi parked out in the road and in someones driveway. i just about swerve everytime i go home because its so beautiful, it has black leather and the body is also in mint condition

there were 4 versions of the 8 series, or E31, as its referred to internally.
The 840ci came with the 4.0L M60 B40 V8 and the 4.4L M62 B44 V8.
The 850i came with the M70 B50, a 5.0L v12.
850ci came with the M73 B54 5.4L V12.
the ultimate 8 series, the 850csi, came with the S70 B56 5.6L V12.
hope that clears things up...

The V8 was DOHC
The V12's were all SOHC, (except the one in the mclaren IIRC). if this debate is THAT important, go to dtmpower.net and they will answer your questions.
