Well after spending numerous hours installing the motor it started up and blew a hole that is 2" by 3" out of the block. This is not normal my mods include
greddy turbo elbow
dp
koyo with samco hoses
hybrid intercooler
greddy oil pan
cusco single plate
walbro fuel pump
stock turbo top and bottom end
There was plenty of oil in the car and the car started up right away and then two minutes later there was a knock and ten seconds later the rod blew a huge hole below the exhaust manifold. This is not supposed to happen and I was wondering if this will be covered in my 30 day start up warranty. I have never heard of this happening the belts were all moving and I did let the fuel and oil run into it by disconecting the cas and turning the car on for 3 intervals of about 20seconds. I purchased this from plan b. Also upon start up it had a knock. So, I got sent a blown motor right off the bat.

i guess the question is will whoever you bought that POS motor from gonna hook you up with another one?

Yes that is the question I purchased this through plan B and they have a 30 day start up warranty. I also clearly got a broken engine to begin with.

whats with companies selling POS motors. my engine i got from heavy throttle had a hole in the front cover right where the oil pump circulates into the motor. was covered with gray silicone so i didnt notice it till after i started it and oil flew up the garage and hit the ceiling. luckily i was able to replace the oil pump front cover assembly and motor seems to run fine. but added way more hastle....waiting on parts extended my install time passed the 30 days or whatever and they wouldnt buy the new cover for me. good luck man. i hope these guys dont screw you.

Yes there the ones in jacksonville its just passed the 30 days but I just recieved the ecu finally after 3 weeks of waiting, so this shouldnt matter since this is there fault for a poor engine and not having the ecu shipped out with the engine.

Well I finally got word from Ross at Plan B. Here is where the 2 months of bullshit ends, and I am on the losing side of the matter. First off when I ordered the engine I sent out a money order next day for 2275 shipped to my door. If you look at the website he claims to have the engine to your door 7-9 days latter. Well after numerous days later 23 to be exact I finally got the engine. I was really pumped at this point after an hour of looking at the turbo and the rest of the engine for anything externally faulty I thought everything looked good. No serious damage and no shaft play. Fuc#ing retard (refering to myself) since I had no idea what was in store for me. After looking again I was like sweet no ecu. So I called Ross and after 3weeks of hassling Plan B and Osaka(Plan B's supplier) I finally recieved the ecu which was a #63 which got me pissed again and then after numerous phone calls found out that this would work.
Finally after all this sh$t I finally got everything ready did all the prep testing before starting it up finished topping off the fluids. The moment of truth was about to happen I was pumped like a little kid getting a christmas present. Turned the key and it started right up first try, but with a knocking. I had a few friends with me examining where they thought it was coming from. At first I thought it was the light weight flywheel. Then all of a sudden I heard it get louder and then poof scared the complete sh#t out of me and oil was everywhere.
Now after sending an email to Ross since he must have caller Id and answer's nothing that starts with an area code of 952. He emailed me back and said that he cant do anything since it wasnt installed by a shop. Let me remind you that he told me that if the engine doesnt start that he would fix the problem. This was the altimate tease I have ever had. There is so much more work now to get this thing running good thing I just wasted my last check on Kei office coilovers cause I could of just bought a whole new engine. This is almost as bad as having a girl strip in front of you and not being able to move to that next step for whatever reason.
Now I am left with two choices on my next paycheck option 1 is that I will by a new engine minus tranny and all the other stuff. And option 2 which sounds a lot better to me is fly down from Minnesota to Jacksonville walk in and lay him out. This option sounds good since I am undefeated and am scared of nothing except big chicks with mullets.

i like option two.
why dont you buy a block off someone and reuse the head, if it comes down to that. or just rebuild it, some guy just blew his motor after 3 weeks of using it and hes rebuilding it for cheap. (different forum)

I dont know if even taking him to court would do anything since it probably said it has to be installed by a shop, anyway dude warrenties on sr20det engines from any place ebay, shops, online shops whatever, they mean nothing I dont know of a single shop who has ever honored a warrenty. Maybe there are a few but for the most part they are backstabbing whores. get a new block and rebuild it, then you will know you have a good motor.

Should've kept the KA.

should have told him that it came with the hole in the motor, hes in FL, he doesnt know that it was installed, or if it is even in the car. Though this may have not worked either ... its a better chance.

Should've kept the KA.

His KA was in terrible condition so the SR was always in the plans. He's my boy, and I helped him along the way with all of this install. It's a shame that this had to happen:( My SR also came from planB and luckily runs good but not until after I fixed my ECU problems as well. Ross from planB also dicked me over on a couple other parts that came w/ the clip. I had to pay my own way through.

Shops that say they will, "take care of you if something goes wrong" are giving you a big line of BS for the most part. It sucks.

I don't doubt my boy for a second. He really is undefeated and will lay someone out with the first punch :hsdance:

We'll find you another engine (a good one) and get this car going soon hopefully.

shops like Phase2, Garageworks, SRSWAP.COM DO take care of their customers

I will be posting a buyer beware on every forum that involves Nissans, Acuras, Toyotas, and Mazdas. I will have to go back and check what other engines Ross sells to make sure I get every forum. When this is all said and done Ross will lose sales. I on the other hand will get a new motor install it again and have nothing wrong. Then I will go for my victory ride which didnt happen with the other engine. While doing this I will be smoking a phatty testing out my new kei office coilovers and listening to "Were not going to take it" on repeat. Yes you read it right repeat.

remember the fact that usually motor swaps are usually sold with some disclaimer for off-road use only, which might come into play in a legal atmosphere.

Hey, not to take plan b' side but WHENEVER you buy a used engine from anyone, ALWAYS run the standard engine condition tests BEFORE install!!

1) Leakdown test
2) compression test - wet and dry
3) oil pressure test

Running these tests would have resulted in you finding that there was a problem before it went boom. My educated guess would be a lack of oil pressure and/or lubrication. You either had a faulty oil pump, plugged pick up screen, or you had binding at either the main or rod journals from crank or rod warpage, which is usually caused by overheating and poor oil change schedule, causing the necessary film of oil needed to get between the bearings and the rods to not be present. This was most likely a problem that was a long time developing, so yes he did send you a bum motor but you could have saved it if you'd run the tests prior to install. A lack of lubrication in the journals or anywhere on the crank will eventually lead to a blown motor. Were you revving the engine at all from the time you started it up to blow time? Sorry to hear about your mishap but this could have been avoided.

If you had run the tests and then gone to the seller with the results from the oil pressure test, you should have been able to work something out with him. granted he seems shady and this all is irrellevent now but, for your next engine, do all the tests you can!! If you don't know how to do them, take the engine to any decent auto shop and they should be able to perform these tests and get you some info on the motor's condition.

Sorry about your problem....better luck with the next one. :)

The reason I bought my motor from phase2 is because they leakdown and compression test each motor and write the numbers on the valvecover and intake mani runners. You know if you are getting a good motor. And if you are local, you get the pick of the litter of the motorsets if you get there when they arrive. They even post the leakdown and compression numbers of each clip on their website for those that aren't local, so when you buy a clip from them, you know exactly what you are getting. Also, phase2 was very patient with me while I was trouble shooting my startup problems. They let me try 2 different MAFS, an extra ECU, but it turned out that I forgot to wire the IACV wire. Only buy shit from reputable shops because it pays out in the long run.

Garageworks is also a great shop to get stuff from. What impresses me the most about the guys there is that they have great fabrication skills. They are also funny as hell and good times are always had shooting the shit with them at the shop.
