I was curious how hard it would be to conver from Auto to Manual in an S14. I imagine that drilling for the clutch pedal and installation of a clutch master cylinder is not an easy thing to do but I wanted some other opinions...I'm just going off of what a friend of mine said.

you are better off just selling your car, and buying a 5 speed one. Dunno how it is with nissans, but with hondas that'll run you about a grand to do the swap, so its not really worth the money, if u can sell the car and find the manual version for similiar price.

Dont listen to them and just do it. Its not as hard as ppl make it to be and you will learn new shit in the process. So stop being a fag and do it already! :madfawk:

I am going to say this as Civilly as I am capable of doing;
... If you had used the Zilvia Search function, housed here (http://www.zilvia.net/f/search.php?) you would have found SEVERAL threads on this very topic, some even became pretty heated discussions and a couple would have even answered this very question for you. But, since you decided to need to have someone spoonfeed you all the information you seek, look at this thread:
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=21181
... the only one I really needed for mine. You wanna know little variables and other options/opinions, then YOU do the search, my car is driveable now and I have done all the research I needed.

it's
not
that
hard.
AND DON"T BE A PUSSY AND PAY SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT FOR YOU
the master cylinder and clutch pedal drilling isn't hard at all. it's just drilling.

I appreciate the help that some of you gave me...I had every intention of doing this myself anyway. In fact I'm doing EVERYTHING myself. And PHLIP, I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction and I'm sure that if you knew I was on a Naval Warship in the middle of the ocean and bandwidth is VERY limited and to load one page takes several minutes, then you would have been a little less of a dick about it. Or maybe that's just you, who knows? Fact is, to "search" would be an entire day evolution so forgive me for going the "easy" way and just posting a new thread.

The clutch pedal is probably one of the simplest thing you can do in manual swap. The spot for clutch pedal has precut carpet on it and marked firewall.
So all you do is, get rid of the carpet and drill one big hole and two smaller holes on the firewall just as they are marked. You can't go wrong with it.
Dropping the transmission for the first timer will be the most difficult because it will be hard to reach the bolts. Couple extentions should solve the problem though.

Haha, when doing chlatboy's swap, we crushed his AC lines, so he's got no AC. Summer is going to suck for you bro! :boink:

haha, im a cheap ass, so i'll just roll down my windows. You'll lose alot of weight once you drop out that AC condenser. That and the bracket that holds it is, my guess, a 30-40lbs difference. Windows is all you need, and you can feel the wind flow thru your hair! And you should also find a good clutch. Get a stage2 ORC.

AC is for vagina's anyway. God gives you windows.
Now to our friend that needs to know how tough it is to do a 5 speed.
I'm basically car retarded and I did it. (It did take 2 weeks and I dropped the transmission on my head but it got done)
The hardest part is taking the @$% Auto tranny off, and sticking the manual tranny on... The rest of it is CAKE!
So get 2 strong manly friends that bench 300 easily, and get them to do the tough stuff, and do the easy stuff yourself.

If you're on a warship in the middle of the ocean, why are you worried about swapping in a 5speed? Doubt you can drive it very far.

this ship doesnt stay underway forever...at some point in a ship's deployment cycle a miraculous thing happens...it pulls into its homeport. And when that happens, I have an S14 Auto that needs to be converted to Manual...and that time is not far away. But thanks for the wise ass comment. i appreciate it.
