View Full Version : replacing my brake fluid...how much do i need total

hey guys im doing new pads and im gonna replace my brake fluid.
how much brake fluid will it take roughly? i checked the FSM and it doesnt list a spec for the amount of brake fluid needed.

can anyone advise?

one bottle should be enough. not the little pint ones, get a quart.

with speedbleeders i can get away with a 500 ml bottle of dot 5.1

The Sam's Club has gallon sized ones, for the price of a quart. You can use it for your next 5 brake fluid changes. With the rest, since its just like wax, mix the rest in with soap the next time you wash your car.

you guys...brake cleaner will remove paint. I used brake fluid to remove scuffs from my fender after i hit a concrete wall at the racetrack. It works like a charm

don't buy too much more than you need, a quart is plenty, it'll just sit there collecting moisture, especially if it comes in a plastic container... metal ones are much better at keeping out moisutre (I believe).

Brake fluid will take paint off too. You have to rinse it off with water. If you let it sit there for any amount of time and try to wipe it off your paint will come with it.
