View Full Version : Slave Cylinder Piston Extension

Did a clutch change. The clutch won't disengage when the motor was running. So I removed the damper and replaced the slave cylinder. Clutch still won't disengage. Decided to check if the clutch was installed properly by
putting the car in gear and then starting the car and seeing if it went forward. That worked.

I was finally at a lost of what to do so one of things that I thought might be an issue was that the slave cylinder piston wasn't pushing the throw out bearing enough to disengage the clutch. So what I did was take the little rod "piston" out of the slave cylinder and put it into a socket (8mm) that would still fit the slave cylinder and use that to extend the piston by about a 1/4 of an inch.

Started the car up and clutched worked fine. I think the problem was because I had taken the flywheel to be resurfaced and the guy told me the previous owner had resurfaced it wrong since there was no step and with this additional resurface it had caused the flywheel to become even thinner.

Have anyone had a similar issue and how did you guys managed to extend the piston?

What shape is the clutch fork in, or the pivot point?

How does the clutch feel?

Chances are there's air in your system. You need to extent the master clutch cyl. pushrod all the way out and bleed the system again. You need a 12mm wrench for the lock nut.

change the fluid. i haven't figured out how, but clutch hydraulic fluid (dot3 brake fluid) can go bad. On my car, the clutch wouldn't hold power while I spool - changed the fluid and it was good as new. I think its related the Arizona heat.

I've done teh same damn thing, but it didn;t work for me, turns out the clutch disc center section had an interference fit on the input shaft for some reason, so today I went to LS Automotive and took the disc that didn;t work on my tarnny and tried it on another SR tranny and it worked, anyhow they gave me another disc and it slides on the input shaft now so I have to put the tranny back on and see if that works....weird shit.

well i still need to tune it maybe grind it down a lil i ono, still need to supposedly 'break it in' but yeah, i had to use an extension this time on my car because when i put the slave on there it doesn't even touch the fork, but i guess it rides fine

Have you adjusted your clutch pedal. Some times when you replace a clutch you have to adjust the clutch pedal.
